I like making things and witnessing other people make things. Myself I do #EmbeddedDev and #Programming alongside a fair amount of writing and TTRPG design. Dipping my toes into pixel art and eurorack modular synthesis.

I am actively trying to curate a feed of people who make things, build worlds, and spread peace.

"Your use case is, there's a fourteen year old in an emergency room at 3 AM. English is their second or maybe fourth language. They have a battered school Chromebook or a hand-me-down Android device that was the cheapest thing on the market six years ago or a PS Vita their parents don't even realize has a web browser, and they're trying to educate themselves in the middle of the single most terrifying night they've ever experienced. Your site needs to work for that person at that moment."
@mhoye and hooking your website into the modern advertising industry immediately rules out that user. Their system can't handle all the popups and animations and JS.

@barubary i know its an older post but this joke is far too damn funny

@patcharcana The parallel to current generative AI is remarkable though, isn't it

"This is inevitable! We could build it, so we had to! And now that it exists, there is no choice but to use it!"

@chamomile anthropic's biennial stunt of begging to be regulated before they have yo break even more laws in pursuit of burning even more money.
Have customized PS1 in my .bashrc. Brb adding "prompt engineer" to my résumé
@barubary i've been poor and I've been stupid and I know which of the two I prefer.
Like I know a dumbass who can build shit and his self-engineered demise is a sacred relationship, like boy and dog or trans girl and favourite aircraft or locomotive, but you are simply under no obligation to build that fuckin' snake...

I've never liked the Roko's Basalisk thought experiment.

Not because of the assumption that a technology will fundamentally be possible one day and needs to be accounted for.

Not because of the assumpetion that man is merely an ape that will club the next ape with the best available stick.

But because of the inherently dumbass assumption that "a thing which can be built shall be built".
