I'm a full-stack software dev. I work mostly in the retirement admin industry.

Politically, I am a 2nd Amendment Liberal. I'm progressive but I believe in guns in the hands of civilians (used ONLY in self defense) in the event evil rises here, Trump and the current threat to democracy proves it can. With a foot on both sides, the split is severe. I'm an Atheist, Twitter refugee, and father.

"National opinion polls still show a sour economic mood..."
Well why might that be? Will journalists ever be self-reflective enough to acknowledge their impact on polls and supposed mood?
Journalism is more and more just a self-fulfilling prophesy.

I just want to pause and remark how fortunate we are for the many years of hard work by the developers of ActivityPub, Mastodon and the apps we enjoy every day.

Twitter’s downfall may have felt sudden, but Mastodon’s rise was not.

Thanks to @evan & W3C for ActivityPub, to @Gargron and all Mastodon contributors, and to the iOS and macOS developers.

@Julia launched Murdoch's war on the net in 2010, demonizing the cookie. Now, in her Times debut, she demonizes 230, wanting to hold intermediaries liable for conduct rather than those who actually violate law.

Seven years ago, I showed that Facebook sold discriminatory ads. Its system is still broken.

Thank you Rusty Bowers, for not committing a crime. Here is your presidential medal. wtf. I get that it was political courage, but thats not the same as real courage.
Encrypted messaging might feel like an “extreme” conception of privacy until you consider the vast number of things we once did in surveillance-resistant private settings that now routinely take place online. It’s like complaining people are allowed to buy homes without hidden microphones because they might plan crimes in them.
Elon Musk is now trying to breathe life into made-up conspiracies about Democratic fundraising and Brazil’s elections. Tesla and SpaceX can go screw themselves. Every purchase and every contract is financing this insanity.

Big Journalism is still largely unwilling to call things what they are. Today's example is the Washington Post's use of "vaccine hesitancy" to describe a movement that is based on rejecting science and evidence in favor of dangerous and, increasingly, politically motivated lies.

The people who reject vaccines are attacking their communities. They spread disease and death. We should recognize this, and say it out loud.

Growing vaccine hesitancy fuels measles, chickenpox resurgence in U.S.

An Ohio measles outbreak among unvaccinated children comes at a time of heightened concern about the public health consequences of anti-vaccine sentiment.
