post-neonatal #CerebralPalsy has declined over the last 35 years in Northern Ireland, especially among those from deprived backgrounds: results our recently published paper (free to download) #disability #inequality https://adc.bmj.com/content/early/2026/02/12/archdischild-2025-329398
I recently finished reading Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain" for the first time. Here's a good review. It's a slow but deep book, with plenty to reflect on. I was struck by some reflections on the nature of time. A topical book still. https://theconversation.com/the-magic-mountain-is-a-sweeping-critique-of-totalitarian-europe-100-years-later-its-warnings-feel-urgent-243132

@Melinda @harriettmb

In a small room of 20 far right #US associates, Cruella #Braverman, the daughter of 1970s #Indian #Immigrants announced: "Multiculturalism has failed" 😳

The irony! πŸ™„

Why's she decided to fly so far to make such incendiary claims? The starting gun for #GE2024 has been fired, & as predicted the #Tories are putting #Race & #Immigration front & centre, just as they did in 2019 with #Brexit

HOWEVER, this time it's the children of Indian Immigrants happily leading the charge

I guess it's not surprising the UK has lower productivity compared to other countries: what to expect when something relatively minor like an hernia can significantly curtail someone's ability to work and make them destitute? This is a terrible waste of people's talents, energies, competences, and I cannot help thinking this is making the whole country poorer (save for those that capitalise on disasters like this). https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/mar/06/england-2023-welfare-system-debt-state-support
This is England in 2023 – where a broken welfare system and a hernia can completely destroy your life

I am a debt adviser, and my experience tells me that even if you paid into it, you can’t rely on the state support process any more, says debt adviser Amy Taylor
