My interests are systems research, operating systems development, kernels, virtualization, Linux, and other stuff up that alley. I also enjoy folk music. Nothing beats a good fiddle tune.

If I had a CD drive I could make digital versions of all my music but I don't have a CD drive. Why don't I have a CD drive? Even the computer I built doesn't have one, because the casing doesn't have space to put a drive. Bring back CD drives!
The best experience of summer was getting to see one of my favorite bands live for the first time ever at Rough Trade East in London: I'm With Her with Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jarosz and Sara Watkins. Then I saw them again the next night at the Barbican. #livemusic #live
New horror movie about to drop:
"I KNOW WHAT YOU VIBE CODED LAST SUMMER"

Prior to Covid it was normal to mask in the NICU. People understood that premature babies are as vulnerable as they come and need to protected.

Now? Gowns & gloves but no masking.

The damage caused by anti mask rhetoric will be felt for years (possibly decades) to come.

Mask mandates belong in healthcare. We should be providing free respirators at the door & cleaning and ventilating the air.

If you’re a healthcare worker who doesn’t think you need to mask, please read my plea on behalf of vulnerable patients:

https://www.disabledginger.com/p/a-plea-to-maskless-healthcare-workers

We know masks in healthcare stop the spread of airborne disease. We know they reduce the risk of hospital acquired COVID (which has a 10% mortality rate).

We know respirators work even better.

So why aren’t we masking? Why are patients having to bear the brunt of infection control?

A Plea to Maskless Healthcare Workers from Vulnerable Patients

If you see a mask - wear a mask. Better yet - wear a mask all the time and show us you understand that we're still IN a pandemic. We are depending on you to keep us safe - please don't betray that.

@gparmer I tried accessing the Composite website today and my browser yelled at me about an invalid cert. Is the site okay?
Homebrew or Macports?
Happy new year everyone. I should toot more.
One of the unremarked indignities of getting older is how long it takes to scroll back from today when using those odometer scrolly things in supposedly well-designed apps that need to know your date of birth.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.
It doesn’t have to be practical.
It doesn’t have to be useful or monetizable.
It doesn’t have to be spectacular, extraordinary, or even original.

Make stuff because you want to. Simply for the joy of making it.

(This is mostly a reminder to myself, to banish all these intrusive self-criticisms. But maybe you need it too.)

I tried to use iNaturalist to figure out what kind of bird Woodstock is and it also doesn't know.
