In honor of the special occasion, I have a blog post ready: All About the Tenth Amendment.

(No, really, it IS all about the Tenth Amendment)

As always, posting here first. If you see any errors please let me know.

It's All About the Tenth Amendment - Teri Kanefield

No, really, it is. The history of the Tenth Amendment explains [almost] everything happening in politics and government today. But before I get to the [scintillating] topic of the Tenth Amendment, I have an announcement: Today is the birthday of Rebels, Robbers, and Radicals: The Story of the Bill of Rights. (I have created birth […]

Why I am Setting out on a Journey and Inviting You Along - Teri Kanefield

The Impetus for a Journey In September, I visited Chile for the Chilean Independence festivities and a reunion for my husband and his siblings. I learned, among other things, that an 84-year-old in-law, who is one of the sweetest people I know, admired Augusto Pinochet. She is also a fan of Donald Trump. She worked all […]

I want to move away from writing about whatever is in the news and write more generally about the law, and even my legal work.

I think that helps people better understand the larger picture of how the law works, which in turn helps with understanding legal news.

This article is basically an illustration of our TESCSREAL bundle, Eugenics and AGI paper.

"And that’s when the man in the castle with the seven fireplaces said it.

“I’m glad there’s OxyContin and video games to keep those people quiet.”

I’m taking the liberty of putting it in quotation marks, though I can’t be sure those were his exact words....Maybe he said “quiescent,” or “docile,” or maybe “powerless.” Something, certainly, along those lines."

really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.

I just wrote a book on Disinformation and included the election lies, so I don't say this lightly, but both of these tear at the fabric of a democracy:

(1) disinformation and misinformation
(2) the kind of outrage and fury that exacerbates polarization.

Unfortunately, both of those are profit driven.

maybe that should be next week's blog posts and I take off the rest of the week 😉

I spent an absurd amount of time writing this week's post because I knew I was going against the current.

I have my weekend blog post ready.

You don’t have an affirmative Constitutional right to vote. (Did you know that?)

The right to vote was not (affirmatively) included in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, or any other Amendments.

Here's why (and what I mean):

Once again, I ran out of time and didn't deal with the problem of that 500 error message. There are some plug ins I'm supposed to try.

If you get the message wait a few minutes and try again.

The Right to Vote - Teri Kanefield

First, some business. I have finished the series about misinformation and outrage in what I have been calling the MSNBC-CNN-Left-Leaning-Social-Media outrage ecosystem. Since last week, I linked the parts together, added a few sections, and revamped the conclusion. The series begins here. *  *  * And now, for this week’s topic: The Right to Vote […]

Great talk by Dmitry Ghilarov today at Leiden University @LED3hub. He talked about his group's exciting work on using cryoEM to better understand protein complexes in bacteria to study antibiotic action on DNA gyrases. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41929-022-00904-1

35 years ago, on 12 March 1989 Sir Tim Berners-Lee wrote “Information Management: A Proposal” outlining the World Wide Web.
Tim's vision outlined a future we are still creating:
"We should work toward a universal linked information system... to allow a place to be found for any information...and a way of finding it afterwards...
...we will be looking for a systems which are future-proof:
• portable, or supported on many platforms,
• Extendible to new data formats."
