Since 2013, I have been focused on making more accessible tools & workflows for creating interactive 3D experiences and apps. Prior to that, I was (mostly) a software engineer for 14 years making apps and games.

I have various hobbies that stimulate my creative and technical brain. Right now I’m really into overlanding (vehicle based exploration and adventure).

@gmate8 I can say with confidence that "Respect the Community" is a core principle that is taken very seriously.

Especially kids — it's not easy to maintain a safe and compliant online space for <13 year olds but it's a constant consideration as far as I can tell!

@gmate8 I know that's been said and I have seen the YouTube videos supposedly proving this. I obviously don't agree.

I find other platforms that rely on user generated content (YouTube, TikTok, etc.) to be far more exploitive of creators.

As far as I know, no other game/experience creation platform provide more direct, immediate access to wide distribution and monetization — especially not in ways possible by an individual that's new to dev and have minimal resources.

It's actually pretty amazing that a open source product developed by a tiny non-profit, running on a network of servers self-funded by volunteer administrator and moderators has managed to absorb some portion of one of the world's largest for-profit social networks.

It's a miracle the whole thing didn't collapse or catch fire.

A quick note of something that may be important for people to know: I already noted that DMs here are a bit sketchy security wise, but (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT): if you mention someone else's account in a DM, Mastodon, yoinks them into the conversation.

So, you know, if you think you're talking about someone behind their back, you might be doing it to their face.

It’s been great building up my Mastodon timeline. I’m finding new, interesting people through timeline and hashtag browsing. Twitter seems to be full of folks dunking on Mastodon’s “complexity” — while I personally don’t see it, I’m fine with a little friction for the masses. 😇
