watching twitter implode in real time makes me very sad. i've used it since 2007. i've met actual real-life friends through it. i can't see the future but it's hard to imagine a path forward right now.
@rachelmetz Same. I used to love Twitter.
@atmanrising same. nothing about its destruction brings me joy. i'm so sad for everyone who works there, having all of this play out so publicly must be so painful.
@rachelmetz literally posted almost identical thing 2 min ago. 2009 here. Kind of heartbroken about it
@rachelmetz agreed. When it was good, there really wasn't a better social network. Just awful.
@rachelmetz I don’t want to see it die. Hoping for the best. Do all good things end?
@rachelmetz 2008 for me… I’m happy with Mastodon for my daily routine. With the recent chatter about monetizing data I’m wondering if I should fully delete my profile.
@rachelmetz I understand your point of view. I too have met some fantastic people through Twitter. I find it difficult and sad that this social media is changing like this. As if we can completely erase what it once was. As if the information has no value anymore. As if opinion is truth. As if trolling was acceptable.
@rachelmetz 2009 for me as well. It was my main source of news from credible publications, journalists, politicians ...
@rachelmetz Rachel! I've only been here for four days and, if anything, I've seen far more promising connections on a day-to-day basis than on the birdsite. Just today, I've learned about Norwegian words and culture, mutually settled a 16 year grudge with a journalist, and even had someone ask me out on a date by email. This tells me that #fedi may be MORE ideal for finding connections. Indeed, more meaningful ones! I know change is hard, but I have a feeling Fedi is a phenomenal alternative!
@rachelmetz I feel the same way. It’s like someone bought our town and they’re burning it
