Casual writer for DCKIM [toronto tech blog].

I believe in :
- ethical computing
- ethical software
- ethical programming
- and Islam

My intention here is to promote the elimination of centralized social media by writing user-first programs that render such monopolies obsolete.

@frijal there are some very basic reasons for this preference. Number one might be that it is easier to use, and there is less to know. Also, common computers found in schools and libraries mostly have Windows, so this is familiar.

I personally find Deb-Ian fairly easy to use but, without AI clipping me some code, I wouldn't know how to install things and it would be a huge hassle.

Once it's set up, it's pretty good. Windows, on the other hand, requires almost nothing of the user.

@sanitation thanks for the Canadian news. We seem to be falling in line with Britain, maybe even our timing will be in step.

@LisaKalayji to understand any part of the document you must read it in light of the entire document.

Super annoying at any time.

If you need glasses, you better have them handy... not THOSE glasses.

I don't wear glasses, and I would never wear those glasses for that reason. Again, for people who do require eyeglasses, they most likely would object to the frames, having limited selections available.

The rest of us will just regard those specific brands as suspicious forever...

@lukasrotermund what is a GoToSocial? I think maybe I will look this one up and see it.

This seems interesting, and I appreciate the truth that centralization is still the tendency here, even so as decentralization is the theme.

I like the idea that the instances themselves should not become overly populous.

I would also say, for myself, that I never like the follower/following dynamic, and would prefer user-determined input to control the Trending Tab.

@witchescauldron

This is very well written and I would agree that the fediverse should be seen as a *means* but, not the *end*. There is a clear opportunity to construct a new system where todays fediverse is a model of a component.

We now only must promote other available software which can help in the goal of rendering outdated centralized social-media services completely obsolete.

I'm brainstorming some changes to make my program better. The program does HTML, feels like 'world-building'. Does saving 20 webpages in one go seem like a good idea? Right now it does only one at a time but, it has 20 levels, so you would have to click through them all.

Other: Middle mouse to scroll?

Thinking of Some New Additions to the Program

20 webpages and a default index page? Is that a good direction for the program? Maybe a default option to have the middle mouse scroll?

Some cheerful looking Yellow Lady Slipper Orchids in the field on my walk just now. They are currently in full bloom all over the place, so it's the best time to take some snapshots. No copyright on these pictures.

@nejimaki it is so weird, isn't it? Some of those bots have a lot of followers, and so there is some extension of your postings into their groups.

Maybe this is a good thing, and maybe it does not matter much.

@witchescauldron I am wishing to know more about this. I believe that mastodon in on the right track with their federatedness but, is it also possible to take the decentralization concept all the way to the individual level? I know that it is possible to host your own instance but, can everyone do that?

I like the hook-line that this essentially amounts to a form akin to feudalism.
