Regulators of implanted medical technology should be demanding that all source code, design docs and other technical material be lodged in escrow.
If the company ceases to make support available, make it all public.
It's one thing for movies or TV shows or video games to disappear "into the vault", but prioritising protection of completely unused IP rights over the the health and wellbeing of patients is criminal.

So, I'm just going to be sure I have this straight.
Back in 2019-2020, when #covid19 first burst onto the scene, nobody had any idea what we were dealing with. Out of an abundance of caution people were urged to stay at home, and keep away from other people.
In the almost-four years since then, we have learned exactly what we are dealing with - a disease never dealt with before on this level, that attacks and destroys multiple systems of the body, leaves many people disabled/bedridden, or with any of a huge number of chronic conditions.
It attacks the heart and brains of everyone infected (to varying degrees), and confers no long lasting immunity against future infections (which tend to get worse each time).
But with all that knowledge, we've now dropped any semblance of protection, and actively discourage masking, isolation and cleaning the air.

And there's even ample evidence from throughout the pandemic that economies that dealt with it head on fared much better than those that let it rip.
There was a report about a year ago from auditors (UK I believe) that analyzed the costs, and found that the cost to do nothing FAR exceeded the costs to employ mitigations, factoring in lost production, time off, etc.
But its the *upfront* costs that powers that be rally against. Future be damned... It's all about this quarters profits.

I knew what to do in 2019-2020. My mom had MS and died in 2017. When she was alive, I had to learn how to keep germs away from her, because a slight cold could kill her. I've used many of these learned tactics to avoid germ spread, when I learned of Covid around February 2020, after suffering a month-long cold where I had to cough so hard to get fluids out of my lungs.
I understand germs can be deadly to some people. My mom died of a heart attack.
@neutrino78x if only the vaccines provided significant protection from Long Covid, or helped prevent spread 🤷🏼♂️.
And with the majority of people more than 6 months past their last shot (and many ppl not eligible or interested in getting another booster), it doesn't even make a dent anymore.
Masks, clean air AND FAR-UV are the best options we have if we expect to make it out of this.
