So, I'm just going to be sure I have this straight.

Back in 2019-2020, when #covid19 first burst onto the scene, nobody had any idea what we were dealing with. Out of an abundance of caution people were urged to stay at home, and keep away from other people.

In the almost-four years since then, we have learned exactly what we are dealing with - a disease never dealt with before on this level, that attacks and destroys multiple systems of the body, leaves many people disabled/bedridden, or with any of a huge number of chronic conditions.

It attacks the heart and brains of everyone infected (to varying degrees), and confers no long lasting immunity against future infections (which tend to get worse each time).

But with all that knowledge, we've now dropped any semblance of protection, and actively discourage masking, isolation and cleaning the air.

... Do I have this right?

@Juicyfranck "almost nobody" almost right.

I knew what to do in 2019-2020. My mom had MS and died in 2017. When she was alive, I had to learn how to keep germs away from her, because a slight cold could kill her. I've used many of these learned tactics to avoid germ spread, when I learned of Covid around February 2020, after suffering a month-long cold where I had to cough so hard to get fluids out of my lungs.

I understand germs can be deadly to some people. My mom died of a heart attack.

@GreenRoc So sorry to hear that about your mom. You are correct - there are many people that recognized how bad the disease appeared to be, and how dangerous something like that is especially to vulnerable ppl.

We (as a species) didn't realize just how bad this particular disease was. Again, ppl working with SARS1 did know a lot, and we've been learning more for 3+ years, and each time it's worse than we ever anticipated.

I've been saying since 2020 that we keep underestimating this disease.

@Juicyfranck @GreenRoc

“We (as a species) didn't realize just how bad this particular disease was”

Only because there were active mis- and dis-information campaigns to minimize and confuse the issues, and because that message was more reassuring than the truth which was always apparent for anyone willing to look.

@GreenRoc

I posted this a few months ago, back when I was still on Xwitter :

"I've noticed it seems people who have a chronic health condition, or often close relatives, are those most aware of the dangers posed by Covid.

Maybe it's because we realize it *can* happen to anyone, or we're worried LC would make our conditions worse."
