'she/her' unless you know me

in case it's not clear from the contents of my timeline, i don't know anything about anything

apparently this needs saying, so:
DO NOT BARGE INTO MY MENTIONS
TO PICK A FIGHT. i come here to chill
out, not argue. if arguing chills you out,
go somewhere else.

block early, block often,
block right wingers on sight

@h3mmy @alice @screwturn @agturcz also, some of us would prefer milk in coffee, but milk doesn't like us... a nice cup of nausea gets old fast
@Rairii @foone @whitequark the VGA BIOS always had the ability to write characters to graphics screens. (so did the original PC BIOS, but only for CGA), and DOS always used the BIOS screen writing routines (albeit indirectly). so i'm not that surprised by error messages such as these.
@drscriptt @furicle i assume understanding full well why you need admin rights to do X, but still regularly trying to do it without the local sudo equivalent first and swearing when you remember, and then swearing even more when you fail to type your password correctly twice, is perfectly ok though ;-)

@wingo thanks! (but gosh, those slides render slowly on my poor little GX-420GI-based thin client...)

ed. only on xpdf, they're fine on zathura using the poppler engine 🤷‍♀️

@janneke

@janneke @wingo i can't watch the video, and there don't appear to be downloadable transcript or slides

@tante @brianmerchant the version of Luddism that the people who defeated it made sure was recorded in the history books, a kneejerk rejection of all things technological? or real Luddism, which insisted that technology should only ever be deployed as augmentation to labour, rather than used to replace it in order to destroy labourers' collective power?

because i'm reading a lot of people in your comments here who appear to have taken it to mean the former, and... when the latter is perhaps more necessary than ever before, that's annoying.

@alcinnz @phryk @vertigo not necessarily interpreted - but interactive is a must. incremental compilation to bytecode or threaded code (like Forth, or Smalltalk, or some Lisps) is especially useful, because it combines the compactness of tokenisation (thus making the most of the memory available) with a turn of speed you can't get otherwise.

@onepict @fsfe if i only could...
