Speculative mystery writer and game designer. Writes about the future, hope, and murder, often in the same story. Here I'm mostly going to be posting about #mystery #writing with a dash of #futurism. I love positive #tech that aims to help the world and not tempt us to exploit the masses. May talk about #games from time to time. One day, I'll make a game designer detective.

🏳️‍🌈 My characters are #queer because I'm queer and I'm not sorry about it. Pronouns are he/him or whatever you want.

@weirdwriter Hey, thanks! You've been really helpful. I don't want to overwhelm myself, but I followed a bit of what you suggested that I felt comfortable with!

@[email protected] Have fun watching the game!

I think that mystery blends so well with other genres, especially setting-focused ones that want for a plot. But, I'm also tired of the tropes and want to change them up. Give some spotlights to character types who haven't had much chance in mystery.

I have also thought the same thing about mystery reader demographics and Mastodon being a little crustier to interact with. Once you figure it out, it's obvious, but getting started is daunting.

@weirdwriter Oh, thanks for letting me know! I am always on the lookout for more mystery writers, but I just don't know many. Anyway, thank you for all your help, now and before I even joined!
@weirdwriter I got in, thank you! I'll probably wait a couple days before migrating, but I have my account over there now. You might want to delete the link, though, since this is only unlisted and anyone could find the thread and follow the link.
@starbreaker Sounds like a mystery to me! I'm really into the whodunnit murder mysteries, but there's a lot of other crimes that need investigating as well. Mystery blends really well with other genres. If you have a world but you're not sure about a plot, you can always lean on mystery to move the story along!

@weirdwriter Yeah, I just noticed it was already up! I've already made the link change, though it was redirecting fine as well.

I didn't think that writing.exchange was accepting new users even via invite! I would like to be over there because it just feels like my kind of space. I would love an invite if you're willing to give one!

@weirdwriter Oh, I follow a few dozen! I'm enjoying it here, and I really am thankful for people like you who have tried to help out with navigating what looks at first like a complicated experience. It really isn't, though, just different!

I should have checked the links today, but that's no problem. I'll just swap the URLs when it's available. Your article really helped me look at communities, and taught me some things about how I should interact with Mastodon, so thank you!

Hey #Mastodon, this time I have a #blogpost about you! This week I decided to talk about all of my experiences in the first few weeks of using this social media, specifically as a #mystery #writer. Special mention to several #writingprompt hashtags that I've found, and what I like or what I wish there was more of here on this network.

The Elephant in the Room

43—Does your MC have an ex that they would ever consider dating again?

Ash hasn't had a lot of relationships and too many of them remind Ash of the past, so it never goes anywhere. In a character sheet exercise for a class, I considered giving Ash an abusive boyfriend/guardian, but it just felt too much like adding trauma when he's already got plenty. I think that Ash leaves relationships more often because of invented reasons. No one's been bad to him.

Aug 17 #WritingWonders—MC POV: What’s a deal-breaker in a friendship and/or relationship?

Ash: I know it's a bit unfair for the guy who can't tell you what his job is, but people who keep secrets from one another are right out. Also, anyone who uses the pressure of a relationship to get what they want. Basically, don't hide, and don't manipulate.

And don't pester me about my parents.
