@paranoiapen The first writing hashtag I became aware of was #WritingWonders, that seemed to pull together a writing community. I think it started soon after "the great migration." The prompts often had to do with characters and would frequently be from a particular POV, which could lead to some deeper thinking about and understanding of your characters, One of the original creators left, but it continued on as #WordWeavers with the remaining two creators. 1/x

8. If you have had to give up your creative activities for a while, how do you motivate yourself to get back in?

I've never **had to** but I had a long dry spell that I got through by interacting with Fedi writers, beginning with the now defunct #WritingWonders hashtag (it continues as #WordWeavers with two of the originators-- check it out if you haven't yet. #PennedPossitbilities & #WritersCoffeeClub too.) I really appreciate the creative community here.

The full text and audio version of my short story The Tangle is now online and free to read!

It first appeared in khōréō magazine's Point of View-themed issue in DEC '24 and I think of it as part of my The Field Guide for Next Time extended universe (that I shared in #WritersCoffeeClub or maybe back when it was #WritingWonders?)

Give it a read/listen, if you have the time. Share it with someone, if you like!

#WritingWonders 18/Mar/25: Connection between plotting style and how MC gets goals?

Not really. I'm a plotter, as I write murder mysteries. But my MCs have to react to the murder and discover what clues they can. Planning only really comes into the final act, when they flush out the killer.

#WritingWonders 14/Feb/2025: Does your world have romantic commitment?

Yes. There's courtship (i.e. dating) and marriage. The latter takes different forms, depending on the culture.

No but, disgusting things aside, I just feel things and then I have some words and pictures that come naturally, or a way of dig into something that inspired me. But I have no voice telling me the words, I translate what I feel.

We’ve been talking for a while about creating a #WritingHorrors series, similar to #WritingWonders / #WordWeavers / #WritersCoffeeClub, but for #writers of #horror, #DarkFantasy, or who just want to enhance their #writing with #dwrk elements in general.

This will be a series of short questions with a few longer #WritingPrompts mixed in, intended to help improve yourself as a #writer, and to improve whatever #story you’re working on.

(Continued in thread)

#Halloween #october

Last year, I was talking about starting some sort of #WritingPrompt / #WritingQuestions hashtag for #Horror and #DarkFantasy #writers, like #WritingWonders or #WordWeavers / #WritersCoffeeClub, but this would be #WritingHorrors and ask questions about morbid topics within #stories.

The post was https://writing.exchange/@raccoon/110379438345748519

I got very sidetracked at some point, but I'd still like to do it, and with #October / #Halloween just around the corner, I'm going to try and start that up soon.

Still brainstorming names for those #WritingWonders-esque #WritingPrompt / #WritingQuestions series... I should come up with some hashtags that work for this. The first two topics I'm thinking of are for stories with #Horror/Dark elements, and #worldbuilding... They should be unique, descriptive, but short enough to not take up too much of a post. So far "WritingHorrors" and "WritingWorlds" feel like they could be names... Any suggestions, fediverse #writers? (Please boost, discuss in 🧵)

#WritersCoffeeClub Ch 11 Nbr 29 — Acknowledgements

Checks serial. Oops. @taur10: Pardon the oversight, friend. Big thank you added.

If I accomplish returning to commercial publication, I will thank all that have helped me in print. Betas, people who've answered questions, people who've held this neurotic's hand, mayhap an artist or two. I will also thank you Mastodon folk, generically, citing those who authored or participated on the following hashtags, as well as my #author followers. You all helped me on my journey. (If you haven't looked at one or more of these tags, check them out!)

Procedural: Acknowledgements go in the beginning, unless they take up more than a half page.

[Author retains copyright (c)2024 R.S.]

QUESTION: Will you acknowledge anyone for this work. Who? You don't need to be too specific.

#WritingWonders: What is your MCs first memory?

Evan's first memories are a confused mess of neural-net training scenarios. It's hard to distinguish and awareness only really comes in towards the end when they move from simulated training to QA testing that involves real humans.

In some ways, Carter isn't that different, as I think of consciousness of any kind we would understand necessarily evolving in similar ways. He's not sure which of his very early memories was first.>
