I have a growing and seething hatred for short form video. It’s become a choice between isolating myself from major platforms I once loved, or allowing my brain to be scooped out bit by bit.

So far my best solution has been to only use the browser apps, but it’s not a perfect solution.

I can also see it improving if the software is decoupled from the hardware, similar to the PC and android ecosystem.

I’ve gone from being a decade long XR zealot to a nay sayer pretty much overnight.

XR is in its desktop phase which requires an open ecosystem, but each major player is trying to shoehorn it into the walled garden, iPad phase.

It’s dead in the water until the hardware gets 10x lighter, or someone builds a desktop class OS.

I tried using an iPad as my main computer. After about a day I can say it’s like living in a house without indoor plumbing.

There is a bathroom, just outside somewhere.

All of this is built on top of #WebComponents, #rapier, and #threejs, and a (hopefully) easy to use ECS. Along with a few more out-of-the-box features I’ll share later.

Still lots to implement (button, image tag, scrolling, gestures) but v0.1 release is on the horizon!

Still cracking away on MR.js. Here’s a look at the improved WebComponents layout API.

I’ve rewritten it to be responsive so windows/panels can be resized. Nothing innovative, but a clean API I can be proud of.

it's all WebComponents & THREE.js and has a built in ECS! So it’s extendable and (hopefully) familiar to devs at all skill levels.

I’m currently integrating AMMO.js for physics based interactions. This will also be accessible to devs.

I’ve got a few TODOs (text, 3D syntax, gestures), but once I’ve got the foundation done, I’ll #opensource the library & create a spatial dev environment to build apps on headset!
