To help shine a light on the Indigenous community and honor iconic Indigenous players, Upper Deck created a limited-edition set featuring Indigenous hockey players who never had an NHL® licensed trading card before. The goal was to create a set that was for the community, by the community. So it was important that from the
“Paracas” animates a 2000-year-old pre-Columbian textile created in the Paracas/Nazca region of Perú. Figures from the ancient textile come to life to perform an imagined ancient ritual in a miniature wold set in the poetic universe of a desert transformed into a garden by its ancient inhabitants.
That time we drove the bumpiest road 3 hours to the very remote Racetrack Playa in Death Valley to see the Sailing Stones.
I walked quite a bit (the jeep is quite far in the background) and as I was photographing a stone, I looked up and caught an iridescent cloud. The only sound was the wind. (My business partner was far in another direction.) A truly sacred moment. I took a few photos, then stopped, sat and meditated.

The Paracas textiles are truly extraordinary.
"The fabrics the mummies were wrapped in reveal the extraordinary skill and artistry of the Paracas. And the images and symbols provide insight into their worldview...There are shamans in trances. Deities. And severed heads...For the Paracas, colors have meaning, and the way they organize them is important. It's part of their identity. There is a symbolism we haven't deciphered yet."
