First book of 2026: By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land by Rebecca Nagle

Very interesting and informative, though also really enraging. Well written and provides a good overview of how different levels of government and corporations have leveraged power to further control & coerce, and to stifle the freedom & sovereignty of Native nations.

I learned about this book from someone else on here, so passing along the recommendation!

New milestone coaching high school soccer in Canada: we had to shovel our full field today so the team could compete in the semi-final! Our staff & students are amazing.

Our library has one copy of the recipe book Vij’s At Home and I’m pretty sure that someone else in town and I are just taking turns borrowing it. When I check it out it can’t be renewed because there’s a hold on it. When I return it and put it back on hold, I’m the only one. Maybe I should leave them post-it note messages highlighting my favourites and see if they respond.

Today, choosing joy looks like purchasing both The House in the Cerulean Sea and Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune. I’ve listened to them and they are such beautiful, joy-filled novels. They leave me feeling hopeful and don’t we all need a little more of that these days?

This book is a must-read. It helped me face some of my own cowardice, while also profoundly reframing the importance of action, even when small.

One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad

“Housing, in this view, is too precious and important to be left to the whims of the market: it is a cornerstone of both human dignity and societal well-being.”

Finished There Is No Place For Us by Brian Gladstone and I’m left furious & mobilized. It is a beautiful telling of the stories of a number of people with insecure housing. For #ontario folks, there’s an unwelcome presence of a T.O. developer involved in the removal of affordable housing in Atlanta. A highly recommended read.

Used the Cycling Guide app today to find a safe & awesome route to the Fletcher Wildlife Gardens to pick up some new native plants. So many smiling cyclists out on the paths! I’m not sure how the seedlings felt about the ride home but they seem to all have survived the breezy ride.
