One of the big stories from yesterday you won’t hear much about is across the country, from local school boards up to national offices, transgender and trans-ally candidates did very well.

Whatever else happened last night, there is strong evidence that making trans people objects of fear and hate is not the winning strategy one side thought it was.

Did some searching and finally learned out how to turn off notification sounds in #Mastodon -- it's not under Preferences, as I thought. Open #Notifications, then the three bar control icon at the top, and then you'll see additional notification preferences, including sound settings. Thank you the person who left this solution "for future googlers!" https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14557#issuecomment-1108590191
There should be a way to disable all sounds for any notification · Issue #14557 · mastodon/mastodon

Pitch From what I can currently tell of Mastodon you can only suppress notification sounds (toggling the "Play sound" setting in the notifications tab) for "New followers", "New follow requests" an...

…Problem was that the creators of Ello had never intended it to be big. It was an act of love created to give artists and creators a place to be online. Ello blew up for a few weeks, but soon everyone left except the original community, which still exists today.

Kept having this vague sense of deja vu these past two days seeing what’s happening with Mastodon, and it just hit me: Ello. Anyone else remember that?

Five or six years ago Twitter came down hard on drag queens for not using their real names, and a bunch of them left and adopted Ello. The news went viral and over a few days millions of new uses piled into Ello as a possible Twitter alternative. (Cont. in reply)

I spoke about this a few days ago, but since there are so many new folks here: Mastodon has lists. And they're useful. You need to already be following people but you can put them into lists and then just call up that list. So, I have a list for journalists, and for tech law people. And it's super useful for me.

Unfortunately, lists are not currently public or shareable, though.

But test out the list feature to make Mastodon more useful.

I found this @jeffjarvis post to have some excellent introductory advice on how to start getting situated in the fediverse.

...Okay, yeah, I could see this thing working.
