Whatever else happened last night, there is strong evidence that making trans people objects of fear and hate is not the winning strategy one side thought it was.
@johnmu @gfiorelli1 Having read John’s linked article I agree that “just” and “it depends” are not in the same category at all.
The problem with “just” is that it carries a dismissive, condescending tone that implies the hearer/reader doesn’t deserve a more nuanced or detailed answer.
“It depends” is simply being honest about the fact that not everything is black and white, and as long as you explain what “it” depends on, actually very helpful.

Five or six years ago Twitter came down hard on drag queens for not using their real names, and a bunch of them left and adopted Ello. The news went viral and over a few days millions of new uses piled into Ello as a possible Twitter alternative. (Cont. in reply)
