#Birmingham, work in aerospace manufacturing, run at #parkrun, play in #moselele

An astonishing fact about the present moment in technology:

Google—which began by doing one thing, and did it better than anyone else, and used that one thing to become a giant company, richer and more powerful than almost any other entity on earth—has lost its ability to do that one thing.

Content farms have basically eaten the first two to three pages of a typical Google search. This morning I was trying to find information about the relative safety of different space heater designs, and 95% of the results were long, rambly bullshit posts written by Jim Smith the Extremely Real Engineer Man for AllAboutSpaceHeaters.com and filled with Amazon affiliate links. Wow, AI is going great. I can't wait to see how this amazing technology will help humanity next.

Oaklands #parkrun this morning. Tired after bike-swim-bike yesterday evening so only at the last minute decided to actually run rather than walk with the six-year old. Already quite warm, took it easy. #264
When I said butter, I actually meant ghee. I should have clarified

There's a certain amount of cognitive dissonance in the #environmental movement between believing that humans are making the planet uninhabitable (for humans) and also wanting to change the trajectory so that humans can survive. Life will be just fine long after there are no humans on Earth. So as an environmentalist, are you for or against human extinction? The anti-human mindset can only exist if you feel that humans are seperate from other life: they are not. Else #twelvemonkeys
Reading The Secret Barrister and whatever you think of #starmer it will be incredibly positive if #labour get into power to have someone in charge who understands the judicial system
Look at all the scrap yards full of three year old cars! (someone needs to tell Rowan about the used car market, apparently he's unaware that you don't have to buy a brand new car)

I love electric vehicles – and was an early adopter. But increasingly I feel duped

Sadly, keeping your old petrol car may be better than buying an EV, says actor Rowan Atkinson

Here's a small index of #environmental altruism:

Although the current financial model of installing domestic #solarpanels requires a pretty long-term view of any 'return' partly due to low feed-in rates for surplus #electricty generated, partly due to the partial withdrawal of state support in the UK & partly due to installation costs, nevertheless people are increasingly (again) installing where the only short/medium term gain is the #greenenergy benefit itself.

Altruists, I salute you!

Sixty-six million years ago, an asteroid slammed into what is today the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. The impact was so forceful that it kicked a tremendous amount of debris out of the atmosphere, which then rained back down, blanketing the Earth's surface with a layer of dust.

All that debris re-entering the atmosphere created a pulse of heat so strong that it set the world on fire.
