#Birmingham, work in aerospace manufacturing, run at #parkrun, play in #moselele

An astonishing fact about the present moment in technology:

Google—which began by doing one thing, and did it better than anyone else, and used that one thing to become a giant company, richer and more powerful than almost any other entity on earth—has lost its ability to do that one thing.

Content farms have basically eaten the first two to three pages of a typical Google search. This morning I was trying to find information about the relative safety of different space heater designs, and 95% of the results were long, rambly bullshit posts written by Jim Smith the Extremely Real Engineer Man for AllAboutSpaceHeaters.com and filled with Amazon affiliate links. Wow, AI is going great. I can't wait to see how this amazing technology will help humanity next.

Oaklands #parkrun this morning. Tired after bike-swim-bike yesterday evening so only at the last minute decided to actually run rather than walk with the six-year old. Already quite warm, took it easy. #264
@billheywood @dsacer You could maybe have had this 'debate' ten years ago. It's utterly irrelevant now. The economics and the auto market has chosen #evs and economics of scale mean that even if you wanted #ice (why?) in a few decades you won't be able to buy one. Where are you going to fill it up? At what cost? Who's going to maintain it?
@AnarchoNinaWrites all independent thinkers, it's just a coincidence that they all believe exactly the same things

@pauliehedron @moliver I wonder if you could also use a large volume of water as a heat reservoir? So it could serve multiple uses, alongside gravity storage, also chuck solar heat in there
@TheBreadmonkey @john1954moi rest assured that running a 5k at all probably puts you top 10% of the population 😀
