So, the Dunning Krüger effect plays a role.

Overconfidence in one’s reasoning abilities and distrust of science are linked to COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs

For a long time, when I'd read a comic with Lex Luthor in it, and he'd be... I dunno, conspiring with a guy who's super power is that he is mediocre at riddles, and maybe Solomon Grundy or someone like that, in order to launch their army of poison turtles into Metropolis, I'd scoff and say, "it's unrealistic that the world's richest man would waste his time and money on something that's only going to showcase to the world how incompetent he is."

I owe DC comics an apology.

Possibly the most frightening talent of the brown bear is an uncanny ability to blend seamlessly into the environment in an almost chameleon-like manner, allowing them to easily surprise their unsuspecting prey.
Yay! It looks like @[email protected] has launched a new server for historians called, fittingly enough, historians.social! I will be migrating there soon, I'm sure. Just waiting for the moderation rules etc to be posted. #histodons #history #academics
Anyway this is more proof that the 20th-century actually only contained 200 people, all connected, just like the 19th-century.
@jbf1755 @katejewell @[email protected] I’m not experiencing it as siloed. I have filled my timeline with people from lots of different servers. I think there’s just a need to put in some initial effort to fill your timeline. (FWIW I don’t bother looking at the local or federated timelines). And I have pinned hashtags like #histodons as a way to keep discovering new people.
I don't know if anyone else gets anxious about phone calls but a little tip I've learned is: if there is a phone call that I don't want to make, before I start dialing the number, I carefully hold the phone in my hand & toss it gently into a lake. I hope this advice helps others.

Hey #histodons! I'm Jonathan Jones, and I'm a historian of the long U.S. Civil War era and the history of medicine. I'm finishing up my first book, "Opium Slavery," on Civil War veterans and drug addiction in the 19th-century U.S.. I teach at VMI, and I enjoy writing op-eds and collaborating on public programing. Stoked to hang with y'all on here and Twitter.
