annehmen = to accept, to assume, to take. One of those jackass verbs with a preposition.
Ich nehme an, die Untersuchung wird nicht lange dauern = I assume (I take it) that the exam will not last long.
Die Vereinigung der beiden Länden wurde gut angenommen = The unification of both countries was received well.
angenommen is the past participle here, an - (ge) - nehmen.
dauern = to last, to take time
beiden = both

A talk I gave on the #ScalaIO conference, November 2, Lyon. It's made with VideoScribe, so it's a nice animation, and voice recording (my voice, not so nice).

Wire is an end-to-end encrypted messenger. I work there as an #Android/#Scala dev. In the talk I explain the architecture and how we use Scala to make the code cleaner and the app more robust.

Additional materials for learning #German. Mark Twain to the rescue! The history of his own linguistic struggles written in both English and German side by side, so the reader can read German while reading about German.
Alright. "Let's play a game, to help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same."

And, oh, right. Welcome #Mastodon! My name is Maciek, I'm a developer at #Wire, Berlin. We do a secure messenger, so being here send like a natural step.

But here I'm as a private, non-IT person. I'm Polish, I live in Berlin now, so I decided to learn German crash course style: with Brothers #Grimm's Tales. I'll be tooting mainly about them and the #German language.

Also, das erste Brüder #Grimm #Märchen ist Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten. The Bremen Town Musicians. It's about a donkey who (it's a he) spent his life carrying bags to the mill and when he got old his master decided to sell him to a slaughterhouse. So the donkey ran away and went to Bremen to become a musician.

My last few toots are about vocabulary from the beginning of this tale. I'll be more consistent from now on.

The Bremen town musicians (ENGLISH) - Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten (GERMAN)

14-11-2017 - The Bremen town musicians (ENGLISH) - Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten (GERMAN) - There was once an ass whose master had made him carry sacks to the mill for many a long year, but whose strength began at last to fail, so that each day as it came found him less capable of work. Then his master began to think of turning him out, but the ass, guessing that something was in the wind that boded him no good, ran away, taking the road to Bremen, for there he thought he might get an engagement as town musician.
