I write, I draw and I do (climate) science. Boreal forests, SDEs & model uncertainty. Lover of Mathematical Biology and Team #SciArt
Please boost to help save the Arctic. We’ve learned a lot about permafrost (frozen ground) and its role in global climate over the past decade. Unfortunately there are some false narratives being driven by the media. Here are some facts driven by our best science. 1) Permafrost underlies 1/4 of N hemisphere land and >1/2 of Canada. This makes 🇨🇦 more of a permafrost nation than a hockey nation. Frozen ground is literally a backbone for ecosystems and infrastructure. 1/

Folge #25 – Kipppunkt Amazonien

This book is hard to find (and rather expensive when found) but the drawings are gorgeous.

Admittedly, these days #mastodons have a very special place in our hearts😉 🥰, so this new research really speaks to us! The oldest #DNA ever recovered, from permafrost in Greenland, has revealed that the elephant-like creatures roamed northern #Greenland 2 million years ago. Now a barren polar desert, the area apparently used to be a lush landscape of trees & home to a diverse flora & fauna. 🤗 *Go mastodons, go!* 🐘 😉 https://nature.com/articles/d41586-022-04377-x

Calling all UK-based early career woman scientists! Please apply for the L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship. The deadline is 02/12, the application is super short (500 words!!) and the £15k is flexible. Happy to help talk through your proposal/ personal statement. Please email me! https://www.forwomeninscience.com/challenge/show/58 #WomenInSTEM #ChemToots #ChemMastodon #ScienceMastodon

Hi Mastodon, I am a PhD researcher at TU Munich’s Land Surface - Atmosphere Interactions Lab. I use computer models to study how climate influences plants AND how plants then influence the climate. 🍃 I am particular interested in how we use stochasticity (randomness) to model things we don’t yet completely understand or know how to mechanistically describe best. I also draw science-inspired things.
