In the end I ditched the #GNOME DE and GDM with #wayland in favor of #MATE and #emptty with #xorg #X11. Right now I don't have problems at all.

Turns out mate is a really good DE, I underestimated it all this time.

I hate #wayland. I hate #GNOME ditching X11 support and focusing on wayland. I am so tired of trying to understand what's wrong to find Wayland forced on me. I love GNOME, but man please bring x11 support back
