In the end I ditched the #GNOME DE and GDM with #wayland in favor of #MATE and #emptty with #xorg #X11. Right now I don't have problems at all.

Turns out mate is a really good DE, I underestimated it all this time.

#Emptty #DisplayManager / #LoginManager #performance has been #benchmarked https://youtu.be/vnhqUJxvuf0. It appears to be a better performer than #SDDM with it's #terminal based user interface. Curious if anyone daily drives Emptty. :)

#dwm and #emptty now benchmarked on https://everybytecounts.org There are so many options for a #WindowManagers with #DisplayManager on #AlpineLinux with better performance than on bare #NixOS #Linux without a #WindowManager, at a fraction of the disk usage. Also, the next release of Alpine, in November, will have more #DesktopEnvironment / window manager options. Some of which are currently on the edge branch, or had become out of date and will have new versions.
