mastodon.cloud is a zombie and I have migrated to beige.party
I'm testing a website someone built using the component library I helped create. There are some minor issues, but generally they did really well, and that makes me happy.

"Google handed over a trove of personal data about a student and journalist to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in response to a subpoena that had not been approved by a judge.

The search giant provided ICE with the usernames, physical addresses, and an itemized list of services associated with the Google account of Amandla Thomas-Johnson, a British student and journalist who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024.

Google also turned over Thomas-Johnson’s IP addresses, phone numbers, subscriber numbers and identities, and credit card and bank account numbers linked to his account."

Google sent personal and financial information of student journalist to ICE | TechCrunch

The tech giant handed over the personal information of a journalist and student who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024. This is the latest example of ICE using its controversial subpoena powers to target people critical of the Trump administration.

⚠️ PSA for anyone still on the mastodon.cloud server, you might want to move off there ASAP.

The server's admin hasn't posted since February 2023 and the server software is so old it's no longer supported for security updates.

There have been cases of extreme abuse posted by mastodon.cloud members and the admin took no action after months of reports. It is possibly an abandoned server, so you might want to transfer your account elsewhere while you still can.

If you need help transferring your account, there's a step-by-step guide at https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server

The tech professional's quintessential dream of moving to a cabin in the woods. 😓

Had a benign action on a #MediaWiki instance triggering a ModSecurity false flag blocking my IP. I thought the entire server was down. Actually I had to disable a specific #ModSecurity rule.

I'm a team of 1 managing these servers.

This is a very lonely situation. Who could ever be expected to know what's happening?? It's just confused sysadmins and a lot of Googling. Brutal.

TSA is mostly useless security theater, the regime isn't allowing FEMA to do its job anyway, and USCG is being ordered to do stuff in the Caribbean that can most charitably be called "legally and ethically questionable." So yeah, fuck it, shut it all down.

I am confounded there are still people running (technical, standards) surveys on MechaHitler’s CSAM-generating platform and presenting those results as if I give a shit what frameworks horrible people use or what CSS problems they have or which elements confuse them.

Maybe I’m an outlier.

I promised I'd have more to say about the Calibre situation; I didn't realize it'd come out to be over a thousand words, but I wrote them all the same.

And yes, it has em-dashes. I like em-dashes. AI can take my em-dashes from my cold and decomposing corpse.
