If you are new to #mastodon, migrating from #twitter and you love to post videos, please consider posting your video over at a hosting site such as Youtube or Vimeo (others exist). Then post the link, it should show and play in your Toot.
It saves your server from having to store and stream huge quantities of extra data.
I'm going to add into here that federated hosting exists in the form of #peertube as well which is worth a look at. https://joinpeertube.org/

Welcome to the new folks joining Mastodon. Here’s a few things to make sure you do first on Mastodon:

-Profile picture, bio, and introduction posts are awesome, even if you’re not sure who/what to tag in them yet.

-Consider pinning an introduction post that tells us what you do and what you might be posting or sharing. This helps others know if they should follow you back.

-Use the search bar to search for hash tags of things you are interested in, for example #History. This helps find some folks to start following.

-Once you start following people and finding some interesting (for you) content, boost those posts. This also helps others know what you are interested in sharing or doing on Mastodon.

-Consider checking out https://a.gup.pe/ and seeing what groups interest you. These work as listservs, in a way—when you tag the @group you follow, it shares it with everyone in that group (like reply all).

-Keep at it! It will feel confusing for a few days, but there are numerous welcoming folks sharing tips on the feed all the time. Give it a little time and you will be a pro in no time.

It seems you can’t quote reblog a toot yet (or I haven’t figured it out). Last toot shows you how @rachelshelden’s book in progress on the Supreme Court will be on 🔥

Leaking, lobbying justices, & justices socializing with politicians/interested parties has a long history. What’s different here is 1) members of this Court sanctimoniously claiming to be apolitical; 2) substantially higher stakes b/c this Court has an outrageous amount of power

It’s cold today, but Clio and Sprocket are keeping me warm as we read this morning.

Twitter is still up and running, which gives me some hope that maybe, just maybe I will get my Tweet data before it all goes down in flames. I've been so busy and in denial that Musk would work for #RIPTwitter that I didn't request my data until last night.
Hello Mastodon. My name is Liz. I’m a historian of early America. My research area is the American Revolution. I am slowly working on a born multimedia project about American union and the Articles of Confederation. I’m best known for my public-facing # history podcast, Ben Franklin’s World.

#PhD students of #Mastodon, I have created a Mastadon group for sharing PhD-related posts using @phdstudents when posting a PhD student toot. Let's help the group to grow and share our PhD student experiences.
