@sinalana.bsky.social This is quite excellent. But please don't double link... use your actual link instead of making people click through bsky.
Ex-farm worker here.
We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.
Not true AT ALL.
Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.
The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.
At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.
WE GOT SEVERE CORNEAL ABRASION SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGN
50-60k lines and nothing works, I would literally kill to look at this. lmao.
@mikaellundin ☝️ This.
I have no doubt that you can get paid for shoveling "AI" shit, but wow does it sound like soul-crushing work.
@nixCraft > "I feel hiring an expert might actually take less time than with AI,..."
Hmm, so what I'm hear/read-ing here is it almost seems like doing the thing is the fastest, and most reliable, way of getting a thing done correctly?
... So unexpected (-!
@codebyjeff @nixCraft the junior dev usually at least had to go to a boot camp and learn the absolute basics of OOP first
Plus jr devs usually have to get their code reviewed by a senior dev before they get anywhere close to 50k lines of code
@greenpepper22 I disagree with the last part...
and actually, the first part as well, come to think of it... 🤔
you obviously haven't worked in some of the places I have
@codebyjeff I guess then lol, never worked at a place with all jr devs and no seniors who reviewed code changes
How would you even get shit deployed?
> How would you even get shit deployed?
Who said you need senior developers to review code and help you deploy stuff? It’s Vibe Deployment ™️. You just ssh into prod and edit shit until the page looks right, and nothing 404s or gives you site errors anymore. Got a multiple-server cluster serving your site? Vibe Deploy each of the cluster members! With luck, each visitor will get a uniquely customized page.
@nixCraft I think LLMs are at their peak now and doomed in the future.
The curve of better results will flatten. The more AI slop is churned out the more it poisons the wells of genuine smart content to train them with. That crap is in a rapid and never ending rise due to greedy corporations who are in need of even the most remote idiot's money without understanding they are killing their own products.
@nixCraft Well, I would quote him 150K, estimate 18 months to sort it out for him.
And I would start with what they want it to do and just write something to do that.
But this is the problem that some corporate organisations will be facing. They have AI coded some critical pieces, dumped their developers, and now need to hire someone to "tidy it up". At a cost vastly more than this.
