Twitter refugee, animal lover and wildlife rehabilitator, readin', writin', no arithmetic, proud libtard and senile old lady who yells at mailboxes.
 From NJ, somehow ended up in SC, so I yell a lot.

Surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention. During the debate, when #Trump claimed (falsely) that on #Jan6 “nobody on the other side was killed,” the “other side” he was talking about was the police & Congress. He also called the rioters “we” before he caught himself.

My desk is crowded with junk, or as my cat calls it, a target-rich environment.
My therapist wants me to work on habit formation which sounded like a very easy project until she explained that they’re supposed to be GOOD habits.

One of the things I like about #Mastodon is the effective 'half-life' of posts;

at the other place, posts flared up over a couple of hours when they would get all (or at least most) of their re-posts & then disappear for all intents & purposes.

Here, posts from days ago still are being re-posted and favourited;

its great to be in an environment which is more interested in the message(s) than just looking at what's being posted right now.

My guess is following hashtags is doing that work?

Arwa Mahdawi (Guardian) on the prospect of a #cagefight between #ElonMusk & #MarkZuckerberg:

'Wouldn’t it be nice if, instead of boasting about who can beat who in a cage fighting match, they all boasted about who’d paid the most tax that year? Now that’s a billionaire brawl I could get behind'!

Yup, it would be great to see #JeffBezos and others all competing to tell us how much #tax they had paid to help fund the #publicsector....

what a lovely thought for a Monday morning

I am the grammar police about whom your mother warned you.

If you were strangled on the subway how long would it be until they arrest your killer? Or would they arrest him at all? give him a medal?

Maybe you have no criminal record, maybe you have been paying rent. Maybe you are a pillar of your community and help at the local community garden. But maybe you aren’t white, aren’t Christian, or have “radical antifa” ties online. Maybe you live in a “bad” neighborhood (or like me in a good neighborhood that outsiders assume to be bad)

RT @rbreich: The GOP’s debt ceiling plan would mean:

-A reduction of up to 108K teachers and aides

-200K children kicked off Head Start

-Meals on Wheels taken away from 1 million seniors

-7K fewer rail safety inspection days next year alone

It's just ruthless — plain and simple.

Time measured by light and tide.

CBO just published: *Trends in Corporate Economic Profits and Tax Payments, 1998 to 2017* which clearly shows that corporate profits have been rising while corporate tax payments have remained flat.

Taxes should rise as profits rise. If we have evidence that that is not the case, then we have clear evidence that our system needs to be altered.

Trends in Corporate Economic Profits and Tax Payments, 1998 to 2017

At a Glance Over recent decades, the economic profits of corporations (that is, profits from current production) have grown in relation to the size of the economy, whereas the amounts that corporations pay in federal taxes have remained stable. That pattern, which cannot be explained by changes in federal statutory corporate tax rates, reflects a divergence between economic profits and the corporate tax base (income that is subject to the corporate tax).
