Rides ampersands downhill, sled-style, without the brakes. #Poet. Tech worker. Occasional #gamer. #sailor. Crafty in that #knit #crochet #tat way. I'm sometimes in Calgary; sometimes in St. John's. She/her.

My posts evaporate. C'est la vie!

Regardless of Google deliberate intent, if I take this scenario to other players, say if I asked a research librarian or a topic researcher - and they repeatedly replied to my questions about negative impacts of XYZ with inverted answers like "XYZ is actually not bad", I would view that person as deliberately contrary, agenda-driven and unhelpful.
I see no reason to cut AI more slack than I would a human in that role.
Danielle Smith is all blame and no horse. Deliberately inflicting treaty/wellbeing/monetary harms on the people of #Alberta by pushing forward this referendum for her own career aspirations. Playing into the hands of the worst within #Canada and outside of it.
And her cabinet is complicit in the damage the UCP are wreaking. Even the ones slinking away saying they are not running again. Especially those arseholes. They could have spoken out but they have no integrity, no honor.
@garden This whole thread made me laugh 😸

Teen2: Can I read you the opening paragraph of my essay?

Me: Of course

Teen: [reads thing indicating he has no idea how much time I have spent 'grading' AI generated essay content over the past couple of years]

Me: I ... do not want to hear what ChatGPT says about this

Teen: I swear, I didn't use Chat!

Me: I don't want to hear what ANY AI has to say. I only want to hear what YOU write. In your words. Your writing.

Teen: I ...

Me: [stare]

Teen: Ok I put it into Google. I can read you the original. But it's not as good.

Me: YES PLEASE

Teen: [reads good, human, high school essay intro paragraph]

Me: That, bro, is all I want. That is all anyone wants. Just bring me your writing. Just you. Nothing else.

Teen: But it has comma splices and stuff. And repeated words.

Me: YES. Please just bring that. I really do not want or need to hear what the predictive text machine says 1000 other people have said. I just want to hear YOU.

Teen: Ok. [Returns to read me paragraphs all evening]

Was rewatching Buffy season 6 episode 6 where Willow wants to use magic all the time. She ignores cautions from those who care about her. She uses magic to do things that she could do using normal human skills. She does risky things and downplays the risk. She has an over inflated sense of her abilities. And when confronted by her girlfriend about the cost of using magic, she uses magic to make her girlfriend forget.

My spouse turned to me and said: That's an episode about #AI.

GitHub says thousands of its internal repos were compromised in a recent attack. The Microsoft-owned company said it "detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension."

GitHub says hackers stole data from thousands of internal repositories | TechCrunch

The code hosting giant GitHub said it was investigating a breach, but said there was no evidence of customer data theft.

@abetterjulie @evacide Exactly. I sometimes only find my feet after wandering around a bit on a site. I do not want a targeted answered wrapped up by AI.
Sometimes a bath feels so very very good.
Just capped the long weekend watching 'Return of the Living Dead'. Ha!! What ride. I was expecting a repeat of 'Night if the Living Dead' which I'd seen many years ago. But no. RotLD was much wackier! 🧟
