Rides ampersands downhill, sled-style, without the brakes. #Poet. Tech worker. Occasional #gamer. #sailor. Crafty in that #knit #crochet #tat way. I'm sometimes in Calgary; sometimes in St. John's. She/her.

My posts evaporate. C'est la vie!

Was rewatching Buffy season 6 episode 6 where Willow wants to use magic all the time. She ignores cautions from those who care about her. She uses magic to do things that she could do using normal human skills. She does risky things and downplays the risk. She has an over inflated sense of her abilities. And when confronted by her girlfriend about the cost of using magic, she uses magic to make her girlfriend forget.

My spouse turned to me and said: That's an episode about #AI.

GitHub says thousands of its internal repos were compromised in a recent attack. The Microsoft-owned company said it "detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension."

Sometimes a bath feels so very very good.
Just capped the long weekend watching 'Return of the Living Dead'. Ha!! What ride. I was expecting a repeat of 'Night if the Living Dead' which I'd seen many years ago. But no. RotLD was much wackier! 🧟

I'm thinking #Canada should definitely continue sourcing weapons/planes/subs from other countries.

Good for parents in Washington state for standing up against this bonkers effort to use their pre-schoolers to train AI. But other parents won’t be as aware or able to prevent this. https://www.404media.co/researchers-wanted-preschool-teachers-to-wear-cameras-to-train-ai/
Researchers Wanted Preschool Teachers to Wear Cameras to Train AI

“With your permission, your child’s lead teacher may wear a small teacher-worn camera that captures the teacher's approximate first-person perspective, and/or we may place a fixed video camera in the classroom,” a document given to parents and later shared with 404 Media reads.

There are a few charities in Canada that cold call for donations. They use a tricky prerecorded message from a semi-well-known person

The msg starts with a pause where you say Hello, then the person says Hello, more pause, you saying, Hello? Hello? then the person speaks like it's a real-time call. & it takes a min for you to realize it's a recording.

This is the worst donation solicitation approach EVER. By the time I realize it's a recording I just want to pinch the person and the charity 🙄

Loved all previous novels. But this one was just ok.
It's the first time using audiobook, so it maybe contributed to the meh-ness. Library had long queue for the ebook but I was able to scoop up the audiobook 🤷 Narrator did not match the Murderbot in my head.
Other annoyance was the CONSTANT emotion checkin bit. Too often. Felt like real words to convey emotion realisations were replaced by a stenographers symbol 🫤
Your mileage may vary.
