@smveerman @jon very likely, yes
@jon funny that they didn't even bother putting up new stickers!

Not #CrossBorderRail directly, but I've written an opinion piece for The Guardian about the stalling development of night trains in Europe, and why Nox - a new Berlin startup - has some interesting ideas how to solve some of the issues

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jun/11/europe-was-promised-a-new-golden-age-of-the-night-train-why-are-we-still-waiting

Europe was promised a new golden age of the night train. Why are we still waiting?

Romance, excitement and sustainability – continent-crossing sleeper trains should be a hit. It’s time for the EU to catch on, says writer and campaigner Jon Worth

The Guardian

@jon I'm hopeful, too, but truly wonder in what ways they can do better than e.g. European Sleeper. If anything, ES is demonstrating how insanely hard it is to run a viable, open access night train service without very serious backing.

Appreciate your piece in The Guardian, by the way.

We find two alternative #policymixes that promote the uptake of BEVs.
Our research underscores multiple ways in which BEV diffusion in cities may be successful.

@jon Hell, they even decided to remove the original track 1 just after the new station was delivered. And that office-cum-Eurostar lounge? A weird and cramped contraption on multiple levels.

Rant over, just had to get that off my chest (I'm located in Rotterdam).

Eurostar and the Dutch gov't are still bickering about the costs of running this operation. As in so many other ways, Brexit was a bad idea.

Good luck with the rest of the project!

@jon A bit late to this (I know you have already move on) - but R'dam has always perplexed me. The entire station was rebuilt on the argument of 'more international trains', and yet they didn't anticipate anything in terms of logistics. Sure, Brexit is to blame for all the customs fanfare, but there was an A-class opportunity to design the passenger and workflows properly.
