@f The 4 Freedoms are a good anchor, but I think there's also a socio-econo-politico-legal conundrum that's difficult to nail down, as in calling Libre software licensing "Viral", lol. If I Open my source, other users can allow even other users to use it or not, but if I Free my source, other users _can't_ prevent even other users from using it. See also paradoxes "Freedom isn't free", "being intolerant of intolerance", etc.
@CGM @profoundlynerdy @Lemmus Also https://youtube.com/@thepowerofprolog will quickly start changing how one thinks about #programming (esp. for me, flow control and problem domain vs. solution domain)

To anyone with #psychology and #sociology chops:

Do you remember a #study (reported in popular science press within the last 10 years) about #partisanship that tried to #measure the base level of commonality that would always transcend #partisan divides...and found that there was none?

#AI couldn't help, thankfully or no. I thought I read about it in @arstechnica but no luck searching there.

Any pointers appreciated.

@reece The USB connector. An honest-to-root USB connector.

Every command line tool that pretty-prints progress bars and live status reports and all that stuff as it goes along in ways that constantly print characters and require a cursor-addressable display (or ANSI code support or etc) should have a way of turning all that off and printing things a line at a time with no fancy progress bars.

This rant is brought to you by dnf5, but it's not the only offender. At least 'apt' isn't the only way, you can use 'apt-get' and so on.

> 'emergent "designs" have no intent.'

That's the particular axiom I dispute.

@AlexanderKingsbury @JugglingWithEggs

Could have been Emergent, #complexity arising from simplicity. Designed, but not by discrete authorial process or gesture.

@Em0nM4stodon d'you know the #weirdest thing about the #fediverse experience?

Seeing the same #content twice in a feed, between two different sessions.

That's not the weirdest thing.

The weirdest thing is feeling it's weird to see the same content twice.

😂 found it in my phone while cleaning up storage 😆
