On September 26th 2024, over 60 key stakeholders from the European Open Access community were invited to take a first look at the European Diamond Capacity Hub. A paper interesting for other reasons includes this aside about a prototype #AI tool: "When it is given a query, #PaperQA2 searches several academic databases for relevant papers and tries to access the full text of both #OpenAccess and #paywalled content. Commissioner-designate Virkunnen says she and the EU_Commission support #OpenSource tools and development.
But the Commission recently cut funding for open-source software out of Horizon 2025 funding.

The Next Generation Internet initiative has supported Free Software projects with funding and technical assistance since 2018. Despite its proven success, the European Commission made the decision to cut this funding in the current draft for the Horizon Europe 2025 Work Programme.
