I can make bread. I'm even quite *good" at making bread. But it appears that making bread pretty is not in my skillset. I have instead created a monstrosity that will likely come alive tonight and eat next door's dog. Or a coral reef, like the crown of thorns starfish I was apparently channelling.

It did taste really good, though. Tapenade and pesto and ALL the cheese.

So this is winter in the mountains in the south of #France ... #Running in shorts and a singlet in the hills above my wee village. There *was* snow here a couple of weeks ago ...

Also, this beautiful view was just off the trail and necessitated creeping through some bushes. Quite sensibly, I held onto some branches, since it's kind of high.

Next time I'll make sure the tree I hold onto isn't completely dead and dessicated.

Yes, swearing was involved.

Okay, so, this afternoon, I pulled out my camera to take a picture of what I took to be a very floofy song sparrow near the river, just barely spot-able in the heavy camouflage of the surrounding trees and shadowy light on that part of the trail. Friends, e was no sparrow. E was a Northern pygmy owl. (!!!!)

I love things that just seem a little OFF. Incongruous.

Such as this tower, complete with caution tape, just slapped on the edge of an open air clothing market. It was the tape that got me.

Was it in case someone didn't see the giant, tree-encircled, rather pretty tower and just walked straight into it?

Is it an unexpected tower?

Was it not there yesterday?

Might it bite if one ventures over the tape?

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I will never get tired of catching the moon set over the hills first thing in the morning. This place is magic.

(Although would not complain about sleeping past moonset, if brain could take a rest for five minutes...)

Starting as I mean to go on - with ALL THE CARBS. #Pasta in the sun in #Italy last Saturday, because these are all good things. (As was the delicious but terrifyingly hot homemade chili sauce they served with it ...)
