Wow... email from Bass Pro Shops (of all places) (!!)

Glad they are speaking out.

#politics #BassProShops

"This is why we have been working with a broad and unprecedented coalition that has risen in opposition. Nearly every major hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation, and conservation organization in the country—representing tens of millions of sportsmen and women—have formally urged the Senate to reject this provision. We stand united that our focus should be on the restoration and improved management of our public lands “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people”—not selling them to the highest bidder! "

#landconservation #cabelas #BassProShops

This is a list across the political spectrum.
@ai6yr I’m both relieved and having a resurrection of a near-dead ABOUT F¥@&!%@ TIME reaction. I grew up in and among their target market; everyone I grew up around should (ostensibly) be horrified. I have two of the worst senators, so I expect of them the closest thing they can devise to pure existential evil, but “pissed off outdoor enthusiast” is exactly the persona I’ve whipped out calling them about this bill everyday because *actual* conservatives would want them primaried.
@ai6yr I’m not sure why they aren’t on the graphic, but Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is aligned against selling off public land as well.
@ai6yr Oh, and the Ruffed Grouse Society.

@ai6yr

Let's see them organize their members to protest this. It's time we saw many more people from disparate groups pushing back for a variety of reasons.

@ai6yr @rpmik Well almost all of them are for killing things if that's a spectrum

@ai6yr I can often come together with people who don't share my politics over our shared love of the land

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one

@ai6yr I was rewatching some Ron Swanson clips from "Parks & Recreation" last night and it reminds me of how Ron and Leslie Knope could overlap on issues like this.
@ai6yr I remember something similar happening during the GWV administration. It's unfortunate people have such short memories.
@ai6yr that list of conservation orgs is huge
@ai6yr
There are lots of conservatives who support land conservation. They are often outdoor sportspeople. Protecting land, water, and species isn't as large of a lightening rod as climate change. So, this is less surprising than you might think.
@amyedge Yes, I've seen that. I'm just amazed they're out there calling this out (typically, even though they support land conservation, they're typically cozy-cozy with conservative administrations).
@ai6yr
Their source of revenue is on the line. They sell a lot of materials to middle class and upper middle class sports people. I doubt they stepped out alone. There may be a whole campaign of sports outfitters, lodges, tour guides, etc forthcoming.
@ai6yr
There are issues about public lands, such as not being subject to property tax, etc, that need to be addressed, but not like this. This administration is good at taking issues where there is a problem. Many people know it is a problem, but the change they are offering is a huge bomb when thoughtful reform is needed. I'm glad Pro Bass is stepping forward. Hopefully, Cabella's will follow.
@amyedge @ai6yr Cabela’s and Bass Pro are the same company now :/
@Jillianmarisa @ai6yr
Shows you what I know....I'm a Walmart gal myself.
@amyedge @ai6yr
The NRA used to be a hunting-safety club that might have supported this
@ai6yr
I used the Yellowstone and Alaska stickers on someone's cooler as a starting point for a conversation. We had a great chat. I can assure you that she and I were at the opposite ends of the political pole. Nature is a common ground where many of us can stand. Not everyone. But many people.
@ai6yr
aaaaaaaw.... is somebody pwojecting a hit to their pwofit margins?? poooooor baybees
@MsMerope quick question - what the fuck? I feel okay dropping this as it’s about as thoughtful as your comment. Are you pro selling national parks because what you perceive as a baddie is against it?

@BurritoSommelier
no, I'm fucking cynical that they are doing this because they love parks - more like they love selling shit to people who go to parks.
no parks?
no sales

no profits

seems like many corporations only do the right thing if it might impact their profits

@MsMerope and when your interests align there is so much cognitive dissonance that you can’t bring yourself to support the same cause when their end goal of protecting national parks is also what you would want even if you think there are motives that are less pure than your own?

@BurritoSommelier
they should have paid attention in the first place because anybody who was paying attention back in 2016 when that jackass was first elected KNEW this was going to happen if it got elected again

but no, big corps didn't have the guts to oppose this shit and vote against this insanity ...
UNTIL IT HIT THEM IN CHECK BOOK.

@MsMerope you’re clutching that hot coal of corporate resentment so tightly that you’re burning your own hands while the actual threat to our parks remains, you’re even encouraging it - maybe drop the grudge and focus on the real goal here? Protect our parks.
@MsMerope
Please shut up and let the adults work to save our public lands.
@ai6yr FAFO. They donated to the 2020 campaign. They thanked him for conservation efforts, lol.
@deewani @ai6yr Makes me wonder if there’s been a change in leadership.
@ai6yr Could it *finally* be sinking in with conservatives that their party has been hijacked by billionaires and their syncophants/toadies who do not give two shits about them?
@HumToTable @ai6yr I'm not holding my breath, lol. Here's hoping though.
@ai6yr Ducks Unlimited (people who like to shoot ducks) has done a lot to protect our wetlands. 🤷‍♀️
@ai6yr I was a little surprised when I got that email earlier from Bass Pro but I am glad they are standing up.
@ai6yr seems like an appropriate time for this excellent bass pro meme
@ai6yr
Thompson Center firearms did a similar ad asking us to call Mike Lee to oppose the sellout.
@dougfir 🤯 (I'm glad, maybe they will listen to that demographic)
@ai6yr Makes sense since their business is based on the great outdoors.
What is not usually mentioned is that hunters/fishing folks are great allies in this fight. They serve these customers
@ai6yr We have to look for common ground. MAGAs enjoy outdoor sports: hunting, fishing, ATVs and Bass knows where their bread is buttered. Maybe we save our outdoor spaces by working togther (amd holding my nose, blindfolding myself and keeping myself away from sharp kitchen tools).
@ai6yr Bass Pro Shop: Don’t sell off our American Birthright.
Supreme Court: Hey, speaking of birthrights…
@ai6yr The Republicans are finding out that the people who vote for them and the people who bankroll them are not in alignment on a few things.
@ai6yr public lands are a way to prevent wealth hoarding and promote economic activity for the not rich. Thousands of small businesses and enterprises thrive because of public lands. Not everything needs to be Disneyland and have an entrance fee.

@ai6yr Looks someone was paying attention. Sen. Lee has a revised version of the public lands bill.

@ai6yr I’m glad they’re speaking out but this is self serving. They sell recreational equipment. It’s in their business interest.
@jorgexls
I added that "period" just to piss you off, because you deserve it.
@ai6yr I'm relieved to see ANYONE speaking up for what has always been #American
and our way of life. The #Constitution is our sacred document that #Republicans have desecrated over the years with division and hate.
I respect anyone who has the spine to stand up and speak out against the #un-American policies being enacted right now.
#Congress and #SCOTUS are weak, spineless, and complete failures.
@ai6yr never knew I would look towards Bass pro shop for calls to action. It's funny most of the people I know that goes to Bass pro shop are very r-wing uninterested in conservation. Very interesting
