Very good read on Arijit and the state of Hindi film music. On the highlighted part, though, I have a counterpoint: S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, as a singer (and Ilayaraja, as a composer). Can easily fill many many days, many more moods, life stages, etc.

It’s so unsettling watching our 250 year-old democracy decay into dictatorship while the most disruptive technology since steam power is evolving at superhuman speed. It’s like watching a locomotive barrel headlong into a tornado. I have a bad feeling about this.

Amazing video about Sugen Gopal, Malaysian Indian chef and restaurant owner whose Roti King in London has been a huge success. He has a great cookbook too.

You may be looking at this food and wondering ‘why is it so different from the vegetarian South Indian foods I usually get’ and that’s because Malaysian Tamils tended to have come from lower caste communities, who have different foods. His success is a huge beacon of hope for many, especially those who haven’t seen this type of Tamil food represented.

It’s my favorite kind of South Indian food, anyway.
