Writing a book about travel in India and Nepal in the 90s. Dad, husband, South Korea permanent resident, UX writer at Samsung. Ex-Googler, Ex-New Yorker.
Last night I dreamed that Skinny Puppy was the duo of Al Jourgensen and Alain Jourgensen, who were unrelated, like the Taylors in Duran Duran. @electricalWSOP, is that how you remember it?
Depressing to see so many smug posts about the lack of conservative voices on Mastodon. I'm not conservative, but I'm interested in what conservatives are saying. Any liberal should be. If we all sort into left and right social media platforms, it's a real loss.
So I've just read that #search is never coming. Admins don't want it. Which means Mastodon will never be good in the way I would like it to be. I don't want to have to invest in knowing the right people before I can find people to follow. Who has time for that? Barriers to entry are barriers. https://midrange.tedium.co/issues/how-mastodon-search-works/
How Mastodon Search Works: Why Can You Only Use Hashtags?
Explaining the cultural dynamics that have led Mastodon to have a search engine that barely works by traditional standards.
Got some good writing done today, paring down too many details into something concise and focused for the opening part of my book on #India and #Nepal#travel.
People talk about Mastodon like they talk about boring small cities. You have to find people! You have to give it a chance! There's cool stuff, but you have to put in the effort. But I don't want my social media to be like building a social life in Fort Wayne. Not in 2022. It's sad, not awesome, that we're back where we started 30 years ago. #bored#disappointed#isthishowyoumakefriendshere?
Reinstating Trump is it. I'm out. You can find me at @joshphilipross, but Mastodon is sleepytown. Facebook is dullsville. For the first time since I got on in 1993, there's nowhere on the Internet I really want to hang out.
