Just found out that The Canadian Constitution Foundation is offering a free online course on constitutional law and fundamental freedoms!

Case study: The community impact of the Canada Line P3

The Canadian Union of Public Employees has looked into the community costs and consequences of privatization of a transit project through a public private partnership (P3) in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Canada Line, a rapid transit line connecting Richmond, the Vancouver International Airport and Vancouver, opened in the summer of 2009.

I’ve always been wary of public-private partnerships as my intro was linked to healthcare. But do they fair well for #transit?

In Ontario, a report into Ottawa's LRT showed it led to costly delays, huge bills and a lack of transparency — isn’t that usually the case?

However, there are several transit P3’s in Vancouver that seem successful, ie. Canada Line & Evergreen Extension

Are they viable? Who fails the project more?

It felt like a hectic day by mid-afternoon until I was reminded that I can slow down.

Since time slowed 3 yrs ago, I started to embrace it. From music in purchasing records and allowing myself to be present while they play, to meditation and reading.

However today marked the first time it presented itself in work, and I feel rejuvenated by it — slow down.

Why the fuck am I in a rush?

Railroads made $21 billion in profits in the first 9 months of 2022.

Guaranteeing 7 paid sick days to rail workers would cost the industry $321 million/year.

That's just 1.5% of those profits.

Congress just rejected sick leave for these workers.

It's profits over everything.

When you hear media blaming the striking rail workers for being the ones that threatened the economy, that's not a neutral reporting. The railroad companies were willing to threaten the economy because they wanted to be able to fire people for calling in sick or going to the doctor. Painting the strikers as the irresponsible ones is propaganda.
