Mastodon has rejected more than five investment offers from Silicon Valley venture capital firms in recent months, as its founder pledged to protect the fast-growing social media platform’s non-profit status. (open access link) https://on.ft.com/3YSq8PU

I like following people who oppose NHS privatisation. If that’s you, could you pls share this post and follow me, and I’ll follow you back? Trying to find ‘my people’ 🤣💙
Instead of: no one wants to work anymore. Try: no one wants to be exploited anymore.
One of the best ways to find great people to follow is to look at the followed list of someone you really like. I hope the Mastodon developers can figure out a less clumsy way to follow people on other instances, rather than copy, paste and search each user. #Mastodon
Competing messaging. Recruiters know that in a dog-eat-dog economy, a message of brotherhood and security is a good selling point. #Photography #Minnesota #Duluth
Watching the World Cup and almost forgot it’s #SocialistSunday . Hmmm (creakily turns on socialist brain)… I don’t know what your cold upper Midwest city is like, but mine (Duluth) needs public recreation facilities is a bad way… swimming pools, indoor fields, fitness centers. The private options mostly suck unless you have plenty of money. Have any of you activists convinced your city to build public rec centers?

With each new surge of Mastodon users, I feel the need to point out:

1. Welcome!

2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.

3. Lots of people are willing to help.

4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.

5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.

Be patient.

@tim Is there a place we can see union.place user count?
