I've been in and out of information security professionally, but somehow always have related projects. Mainly working with zeek and network level detection at the moment. SDR, cycling, and climbing enthusiast.

I boost a lot. Topics range far and wide from security and "the cybers" and may include politics, food, humor, science, law, nature, art, and other sundry unsavories. I occasionally post my own projects and thoughts.

Hey, so this is a strange question. I have been able to do genealogy on the patriarchal side of my family who were Dutch and European back to about 1100, where the records are hard to find and have delved into ancient forms of language I can’t read. (May I say here that amongst my regrets is that I am not the Duchess de Bitche, but gods I want that title. I promise to wear flowy black robes that swirl when I turn and everything!.)

But, do I know anyone, or anyone who knows someone that does genealogy in Eastern Europe and / or the Arabic speaking world? Not asking for free help, genealogy is not a hobby at this level, it’s a profession for which I am prepared to pay for knowledge workers.

DMs are open, so you’re not putting anyone’s name out in public if they prefer not. Thanks gang!

Did I post about my pink lilies? I don't remember.

@kevinrothrock Oh, we're splitting the artificial "generations" into "sub generations" now, and it's from Axios? Fucking whatever.
but the nectarines think you’re kind of an asshole
Aside from the grift, the thing that boils my blood is that this nonsense robs attention and credibility from legitimately real vulnerabilities in US election infrastructure.

The right of birthright citizenship will continue in Colorado — even as a Supreme Court ruling on Friday could allow President Donald Trump to at least temporarily end the practice in other states amid an ongoing legal battle, according to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser.

Birthright citizenship is “protected” in Colorado despite Supreme Court ruling, AG says

With the court’s 6-3 decision delivered by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the U.S. can carry out an order from Trump to end the practice of birthright citizenship in much of the country — but not in Colorado and other states —  for children born after Feb. 19.

@harkank @ChampersBE @ai6yr It looks more like a slim jim sort of design than a J pole, except these appear to be end fed? Is there a gap in the conductor anywhere other than the insulator at the base?
Boost if you're old enough to know why I have one of these on my computer desk.

First coat of truck bed liner on the bike. Next coat in 1.5 hours
Two coats and I'm calling this done since daylight is rapidly fading
I like it!
Yeah baybee. This is gonna look good
I'm putting it back together, slowly and carefully so i don't mess up the finish. This is as far as i think i can go right now until it cures more
I lied. I assembled more of it
@MLE_online its a wheelie poppin machine ❤️
@h2onolan it kind of needs a wheelie bar. It's pretty easy to make it do wheelies
@MLE_online that looks sweet. Is there a freewheel on the rear wheel?
@dr_a no but there is a freewheel on the hub mounted to the frame on the underside of the rack
@MLE_online nice. I love the look of the chain switching sides.

@MLE_online when you said bed liner I worried that it was going to be boring black texture.

I am happy to be so wrong, that green looks great.

@amd oh yeah, the only reason i did this is because it comes in colors
@MLE_online @amd where do you get this festively colorful bed liner? I don't have a project to use it on at the moment but--- i want one now. That's HOT. :D
@vxo @amd Monstaliner!

@MLE_online @amd Thanks!

Hmm. I wonder if it'd work on ABS plastic like what a Pelican case is made of. I have a big rolly suitcase model that's just asking for a project, probably some kinda big power bank + PV charge controller and maybe dockable solar panels to match + mobile radio kit thing, for when I want to be accompanied by nothing but the airwaves up a mountain somewhere :D

@MLE_online @amd fancy SOTA and camp power kit. I mean even fancier if I mixed glitter into the Monstaliner. Believe me I would.
@vxo @amd what is SOTA?
@MLE_online @amd Summits on the Air, it's a special class of amateur radio event where you go up to a mountaintop to "activate" it and log contacts with stations elsewhere. It's kinda the most fun sort of contesting I can imagine wanting to play with due to the cool scenery

@MLE_online

It is looking so good!

@MLE_online FRAN-KEN-BIKE! FRAN-KEN-BIKE!!
@MLE_online It looks soooooo good
@MLE_online Is that just using a brush? Looks great!
@jrward I used sponge rollers and sponges that I got with the liner. They have a coarse texture that helps create the bumpiness

@MLE_online is it a long tail folding bike? Looks awesome! Nice work :-)

What is the bracket just behind the seat post?

@wall0159 I think it's a normal tail folding bike. It's not really very long.

The bracket is part of my convoluted solution to using a FWD ebike motor on the back wheel while still letting me pedal the bike. The bike has two chains, and a bicycle hub gets mounted to that bracket for transferring power between the chains

@MLE_online ahh nice :-) I look forward to seeing how it pans out!
@MLE_online I've seen a frame like this on AliExpress.
@ohmrun A truck bed linered frame? or just the shape?

@MLE_online A truck bed what-now?
I couldn't get my head around the brake setup, amongst other things, so I didn't pursue it.

aliexpress.

@ohmrun I coated the frame with truck bed liner. It's what the thread is about!

I don't actually know how modern folding bikes manage rear brakes. This one is old, like from the 70s and it had a front caliper brake and a rear coaster brake, so no cable had to go to the rear.

@MLE_online I can't get modern folding frames from China, because reasons, I guess.
I saw a short on bed liner, now I come to think about it.
Coaster Brake? (I'll look it up)
@MLE_online when I was a kid, my Dad painted my Mum's Fiat day-glo green with the spray attachment attached to the vacuum cleaner. It had an "orange-peel" texture and he said the non-glare enhanced its visibility! Yours reminds me of that. Your whole folder-e-bike project is awesome! by the way.
@phall715 That's a great story!
@MLE_online dusk, the fearful enemy of every slimer
@fredy @MLE_online yall oughtta stop gunkin
@polloshormones @MLE_online never!!! we love gunk! gunk is great!!!
@MLE_online what type of coating material is this? Looks rugged and durable.
@thejikz truck bed liner! Monstaliner brand
@MLE_online solid, thank you! Looks like a rad coating for lotsa things.
@MLE_online of course, they make bed liner in non-black, but I’m still surprised.
@c0dec0dec0de People do their entire cars in this stuff because of all the cool colors you can get
@MLE_online is it still chunky and non-skid?
@c0dec0dec0de It doesn't have the rubber crumbs mixed into it that some other liners have, but it has a bumpy texture from how you apply it
@MLE_online that’s an aesthetic I can respect for preserving older cars. I imagine it’s more forgiving than normal automotive paint for surface imperfections and repairs.
@c0dec0dec0de It seems popular with off-roaders because it's more durable than paint
@MLE_online Oh sick. I had no idea they sold it in green.
Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner

@MLE_online I mean, it's not exactly a Pantone chip chart, but that's pretty amazing.
