Where's the beer? Boosts aren't endorsements.
With more #cycletweeps finding their way over here could I please politely request any close pass or road violence videos & photos get wrapped in a content warning. They exacerbate the anxiety I and many others feel about cycling (and about loved ones who cycle)
Thank you #biketoots
Not got round to building my new wheel for the folding ebike, arm been giving me jip & not much of rush anyway. Did come across this during a research on how to wheel building, tho right now would love one but not at the cost they go for. Sure would make life easier for me atm.

@JoolsB Yes. A vanilla description only conveys so much. It does not convey what is automatically conveyed to the person who sees that image. You, as the person who chose the image, know the intended effect of that image. You sensed its emotional appeal. You knew this was the right image.

That's the sort of information that I am looking for in an image description, in addition to the basics of what the image contains. Not every image’s worth the 1500 characters available for it, but some will demand more explanation then others.

This is true even with a simple picture. Today I heard the description of a picture of a cat, who is seated on a toilet seat like a lifeguard in a bathroom, making sure his human did not fall in. My iPhone is set to also tell me the results of an automated Apple image recognition scan of that image. For this image, it simply said: "a cat seated in front of a white door”. That is a bare bones “just the facts” description of the picture, but it missed the most important part of the image, after the cat: the toilet, which is also what makes the joke work.

@JasonThorne It can be really difficult to explain why canals aren't good cycling routes, even after lots of incidents with people being mugged on the canals (I'm looking at you Birmingham and Manchester) people still don't get it.

Why city planning needs diverse perspectives.

Touring possible commuter cycling routes.

What I saw - Smooth pavement. Separate from traffic. Shade. Not too busy. Perfect.

What my female partner saw - Blind corners. No lighting. No escape routes. Too few users. Wouldn’t use this route.

@WilliamNB I use Openshot, it's fairly simple and free. I've also heard good things about Davinci Resolve but have no personal experience of it.
OK Hivemind, what's the best free video editing app, to run on Windows & be used by someone with good tech skills, but very limited video editing skills?

I have no idea about the tech framework that lies behind my being able to post this

And if somebody explained it to me I wouldn't understand it

But I feel so grateful that people made it happen and are working overtime to keep it going right now

🙏💚

I don’t know what you all think but Twitter often feels lonely. The sense of community here is amazing and the warmth & affection I’ve experienced since I arrived yesterday has been incredible. My thoughts so far is that something very special is happening here. I’m still going to be saying boll**** quite a lot though!

Councils often use barriers like these on traffic-free walking & cycling routes.

They say that they're to stop illegitimate users, like off-road motorcyclists, but in reality they fail to stop these.

But they do stop disabled people like me who use adapted cycles & other types of mobility aids. And we'd really like to access these safe and quiet routes too.
