ByteDance used TikTok to track my location β€” and the locations of two of my colleagues β€” to try to find our sources. We reported on this back in October, but kept things vague to protect sources. Today ByteDance admitted it, so we can say much more:

EXCLUSIVE: TikTok Spied On Forbes Journalists

ByteDance confirmed it used TikTok to monitor journalists’ physical location using their IP addresses, as first reported by Forbes in October.

3. Even if it meets current minimum requirements, that does not mean it is sufficient for airborne diseases. The Lancet COVID commission just published a recommended value of 6 air changes per hour. Well above minimum. They state continually that minimum requirements are not designed for airborne diseases. Organizations that set standards, like ASHRAE are coming up with new standards for airborne diseases because they know existing ones are not enough. 4/

Look, if we're not here to yell compliments and encouragement at people we probably don't know in real life, what is the internet even for?
A trans woman and a military veteran take down a hate filled man with a gun. Five people have lost their lives in this violent hate crime in Colorado Springs. May their memories live on and the many more who will suffer trauma from this receive so much love and support.
@Graewoof they are both hero’s in horrific circumstances of the acts of a hate filled human. She is an absolute hero and a queen! Wanted to share that I’ve read on Twitter the person who stood on the shooters face was actually a trans woman, not a drag queen. The veteran who was involved to and together with this woman brought down the shooter accidentally misidentified her as a performer. https://twitter.com/unluckybanshee/status/1594914600536809472?s=46&t=R6-MxOYfLJnEn8neWGEFMg

We knew COVID, even Β« mild Β» COVID could cause clots, heart attacks, strokes, and ultimately death since 2020.
Seeing a lot more cases of clots in the last few weeks.
Here’s a real quick 🧡

EDIT: DO NOT BOOST!

This post is nearly a year old, and boosting will simply spread misinformation. Mastodon now has substantially more funding, and has enough scale to handle its many users.

I would delete this post but my server is not letting me so I'm editing this to reflect that I wish for you to NOT BOOST!

---
Right now Mastodon is only receiving appr. $21,000/month through Patreon.

This is not enough to handle the 1 million new accounts that will be made this week.

Currently, only 4,720 patrons are donating to Mastodon.

However, if everyone chips in $2/month, this will ensure the continued survival of Mastodon!

Be a hero! Donate now! https://www.patreon.com/mastodon

@atomicpoet Can you help me understand what supporting Mastodon does to managing incoming volume of new users? Does it support a particular instance? Mastodon as a platform seems ready to handle the users, and donating to it seems like it would support ongoing platform development, rather than sudden demand on a particular instance.

Should people instead be supporting the instances that are facing the greatest increase in load?
