Concern Grows That AI Is Damaging Users’ Cognitive Abilities

The widespread use of AI chatbots are allowing us to offload much of our thinking, slowly deteriorating our cognitive skills.

Futurism
In a way going far beyond 'quantum computing' the mechanical worldview as outlined by Einstein was refuted by experiments of EPR/Bell type. Human brains are extremely unlikely to be machines:
the mechanical worldview not being valid means that the ideas underpinning "AI" contain faulty assumptions
The discussion on the use of AI in the Agda project last week has convinced me I need to do more to push back against its use in projects I contribute to. However, I alone do not have the power to change the policy of all projects I want to contribute to over night. Are any groups organizing against AI in open source? Do you think that could be effective? Would you join?

Trump attacks against NATO allies 'painful', says former NATO chief

Former NATO secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen says the hostility US President Trump holds for NATO allies is 'painful' to see. He says Europe needs to move fast to become independent from US security architecture, and, where possible, make a preference for European weapons over US-made. #EuropeToday

It’s really something that the same people who only few years ago insisted you had to wear some idiotic epic leet haxxor hairshirt and use only vim and C to be a “real” programmer, now say anyone who doesn’t use LLMs is going to be “left behind.”

We really raised a generation of programmers actively hostile to any kind of sophisticated tooling. Half the stuff I see people brag about “coding assistants” doing for them was stuff an IDE could two decades ago, deterministically.

It is in the interest of _every_ human society on the planet to guard against the humanity-eradicating algorithms being sold in as "the future".

🧑‍🏫 Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom

「 After mostly being sidelined, physical books are now being reintroduced into classrooms, and students are learning to write the old-fashioned way: by hand, with a pencil or pen, on sheets of paper. The Swedish government also plans to make schools cellphone-free throughout the country 」

If you're choosing a Mastodon server to join or move to, it's really important that it is safe and reliable.

As far as I know, the only server lists which have safety and reliability requirements are https://fedi.garden and https://joinmastodon.org/servers (please let me know if there are others!). These lists are manually curated by humans.

Automated non-curated server lists are much longer but do not have any safety or reliability rules, so they aren't a good way of finding a server.
