https://www.lse.ac.uk/philosophy/blog/2023/07/06/michela-massimi-wins-the-2023-lakatos-award/ Thrilled that my ‘Perspectival Realism’ has won the 2023 Lakatos Award 🥳. As a #FirstGen academic, this milestone is in memory of my father and my grandparents 💕. Their situated artisanal know-how on olive oil producing, fruit harvesting and beekeeping run deep as a theme in the book. The book is dedicated to my wonderful husband Mark and our son Edward for making possible everything I have achieved 💕💕

Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method
Only slowly I am starting to understand the Mastodon etiquette.
So, my belated #introduction: I am a Maastricht-based historian interested in the ways humans have studied, represented and managed nature in the past. This feeds into an interest for (and concern about) our current environmental predicament. More on the concrete project I am working on can be found here: moving-animals.nl.
Pleased to meet you!

The Dynamics of Science - University of Pittsburgh Press

|9780822947370|Computational Frontiers in History and Philosophy of Science|Millions of scientific articles are published each year, making it difficult to stay abreast of advances within even the smallest subdisciplines. Traditional approaches to the study of science, such as the history and philosophy of science, involve closely reading a relatively small set of journal articles. And yet many questions benefit from casting a wider net: Is most scientific change gradual or revolutionary? What are the key sources of scientific novelty? Over the past several decades, a massive effort to digitize the academic literature and equip computers with algorithms that can distantly read...

Can anyone show me (or tell me how to produce) a list of [self-professed] contemporary #platonist mathematicians? I keep reading 'many mathematicians are platonists', and I could even write so myself, but is it backed by any kind of (empirical, individ based) evidence?

Intended as a (self-)criticism, there is also a positive aspect to this concern: I would genuinely like to compare texts of platonist and 'non-platonist' or 'mainstream' mathematicians.

Hello! We're Mastodon newbies but glad to be here. An #introduction: we're a group of historians & historians of science working on the history of the scientific conference. We're interested in the internal dynamics of conferences & their broader scientific, public & political functions.

Here is an overview of the project: https://heranet.info/2022/08/12/project-of-the-month-sciconf/

We hope to connect with colleagues & interested scholars!
