I used to be an amazing singer/songwriter. Now I'm an amazing mid-level software engineer. I teach German at community college and I'm trying hard to do both jobs as well as can be imagined. I also get more credit than I deserve as a public speaker.

I love generously but I flame arseholes, to my eternal regret.

In Geordie's case I am confident he did in fact know because of the mutual warmth and fun on the occasions we did interact or hang out and because he seemed exceptionally good at loving generously. But not everyone's perceptive in the same way.
