Even educated hogs do it
Let's do it

I want to tell you the story of Vivienne Malone-Mayes, Texas-born mathemetician and professor, but I don't think you can understand her journey without talking about the #AcademicRacism in which she existed.
Am I scared to apply to teaching positions because teaching stresses me out, or because I'm scared I won't be good enough?
We at SGMA are heartbroken by the events in Colorado Springs. We mourn the senseless loss of members of our #LGBTQIA+ family. We deserve to feel safe, especially in the spaces we create to build community. We know how much incidents like this affect our members since they affect us as well.
Still hoping I'll find hourly red panda bots on here 👀
This week was tough, but when I woke up this morning I did have a little kitty with me.

NASA Shares James Webb History Report

Advancing full equality for LGBTQI+ Americans is a core value and priority for NASA. Building a more inclusive future requires we honestly and openly confront our history, including the times when the federal government has fallen short of supporting LGBTQI+ communities. Today, NASA shared findings from an investigation into the historical role of

The AAS Committee for Sexual-Orientation and Gender Minorities in Astronomy (SGMA) is now on Mastodon. For those unfamiliar with us, we Initially established as WGLE in Jan 2012, and work to promote equality for LGBTQIA+ and sexual minority astronomers. Our DMs are always open if you have anything you want us to focus on!

Committee for Sexual-Orientation & Gender Minorities in Astronomy (SGMA) | American Astronomical Society

The AAS Committee for Sexual-Orientation and Gender Minorities in Astronomy (SGMA) works to promote equality for sexual-orientation and gender minorities (SGMs) within our profession, including those identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning or queer, or asexual. SGMA was originally established as the Working Group on LGBTIQ Equality (WGLE) in January 2012.

Yesterday I submitted another application, so today I spent all afternoon doing code debugging with our undergrad.

Around 4 p.m. he said, "I'm sorry for taking all your time!" and I was like, "No no, this is a little treat for me. Please just give me more code problems to solve."

I think much of my issue around the Content Warning culture on Mastodon, is the vocabulary. "Content Warning" has a very specific meaning in other contexts. Here, it is more like "Content Filter" or "Subject Line," to give readers a choice to expand or not.

This feels wrong, because of other contexts where majority folks have tried to express trauma or pain at even having to hear about the racism that impacted me. Feels very much like "Ban teaching civil rights, so white kids don't feel bad."
