Ok, my new instance is running nicely, I've ported everything over and archived my account history here.

So, please do re-join me at @halfpress if the automated migration doesn't update you as it should.

My old posts will remain here as an archive (not that I'm under any illusions it's a key piece of the historic record). :)

See ya over there, I hope! #mastodonmigration

Going to represent @kagihq at work tomorrow
Starting to bring my personal Mastodon instance online slowly and testing the waters. If you see any seemingly redundant follows or probing activity from @halfpress, just know it's me experimenting while I decide when and whether to migrate my account fully.
Some more for amusement.

Some terrifically titled papers from a discovered collection of NASA research documents found in a skip

(with thanks to @JuliaRez for the original pic)

I highly recommend the Netflix documentary, COVER-UP, about Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh. He's devoted his career to uncovering news the powerful want buried.

A very timely subject ...

He's devoted his career to uncovering stories the powerful want buried. From My Lai to Abu Ghraib, dig into the life's work of journalist Seymour Hersh.

@randahl yesterday at FOSDEM there was a member of the European Parliament who was asked why so many politicians are still on X and her answer made total sense (sadly):

Politicians stay on X because journalists are still there, so they feel that if they leave they will become irrelevant / not be written about.

And journalists stay on X because politicians are there.

It’s a vicious cycle

@tankgrrl While on the topic, Elisabeth just shared a photo she found of PROPER snow at one of our favorite places to spend a week: Bald Head Island, NC. This is what we didn't get last week. Would love to see it at BHI, but exceedingly rare, I suspect.
@jamesb My limit was (and remains, albeit rarely) de-energizing arcade monitors and the occasional retrocomputing tube display. WAY short of what you're describing, but dangerous enough for my tastes.
