Big news of the year, I guess -- our local library system has ordered multiple copies of my Words Over Windows photo book!
@atomicpoet People I know who use pop download only to their desktop to get closer to that experience. I use IMAP which really does that, I didn't pay enough attention to your specifying POP.

My excitement for Mastodon isn't really for Mastodon, its for #ActivityPub and the #OpenWeb.

The web is a tool for human connection that has been hi-jacked by corporations. We've traded our attention for convenience and it feels like the pendulum is starting to swing the other way.

A year ago we bought a church building in our town to, among other things, be our business headquarters. This year the house next to it came up for sale, so we bought it as well. The house is a bit of a loss, so we'll be bringing it down and in its place we'll (probably, pending feasibility) be putting up a garden in the front, and some off-street parking for the church in the back. I did not plan on becoming a land baron this year, but, well. Here we are.

@atomicpoet Not even sure exactly what the distinction means to you. I expect to see the *same* contents in my email inbox across *multiple* client software and mlutiple client devices. Is that what you wanted to know?

Does "outbox" mean email waiting to go out to you? That's what it means to me. That's a server concept, but if I look at it from different clients I expect to see the same thing.

Has the UK considered an ultrabrexit in which towns, neighbourhoods, and apartment buildings enjoy full independence of any nation-state level government?

The FIFA board that picked Qatar for the soccer World Cup, back in 2010, are now mostly in prison now for corruption and racketeering.

U.S. Says FIFA Officials Were Bribed to Award World Cups to Russia and Qatar

For nearly a decade, Russia and Qatar have been suspected of buying votes to win hosting rights for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. On Monday, for the first time, the Department of Justice put things in black and white.

For those new to mastodon...

There is no algorithm there. (for better or worse, mostly better)

Boosts are the *only* way that a post will get more visibility.

Bookmarks = I'd like to find this again in the future

Star/favorite = I read this, and it didn't suck.

Boost = more people should see this.

Well, people I find and follow here seem to be following me back, so they're probably the right people :-) .
People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!
