Typically Dutch inconveniences: windmill shadow flashes on a sunny day 😃 #dutch #Netherlands #thenetherlands #holland #folklore

19th century Dominicus Church in #Amsterdam. Another episode in what is becoming a real Toot-series about neo-gothic #architecture in the Netherlands. What makes this church special is the flat ceiling with ornamentation. Also special is the way the #building is tucked away in the ancient housing block, attached to its neighbouring buildings.

Tip: rare opportunity to see the inside during two #classicalmusic concerts with music by Mendelssohn. Sept 2 (8:15pm) and Sunday 3 (3:15pm) 18 euro.

Neo-gothic architecture in a literal sense. As the limitations for the Catholics in the #Netherlands were lifted in the 19th century, the Protestants kept the two former catholic medieval churches in #Delft. The catholics proudly built a new #church with a statement: It was given two different towers, based on the ones of the two churches they lost. Here the model of this church, on display in the real one and pictures of the original churches #architecture #building #catholic #history

The #medieval East Gate in Delft, the Netherlands. Built round 1400.

It features in Fassbinder’s remake of the classic Dracula movie Nosferatu (1979, orig. 1922). I was 12y old, when my home town of Delft was the filmset for this movie. It was controversial because the director wanted to release rats for one of the scenes. Eventually this scene was shot in neighbouring Schiedam. 😃 #film #movies #dracula #middleages #architecture #Netherlands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosferatu_the_Vampyre

Just a question: do flat-earth-believers believe the moon is flat too? And the sun? And oranges? #question #flatearth #conspiracy #conspiracytheories
Gray, darker gray, even darker gray, anthracite… I think this is a worrying and growing trend in the use of #color in #architecture. New #buildings , #building extensions, paintwork, facades, shop windows, even new public benches and other street furniture is often in one shade of grey, at least here in the Netherlands (the photo was taken near me). But as I recently found out on holiday in Scotland: also there. Is this a global trend? Let’s not forget about #colour ! #architecturephotography
This 1960 housing block in Delft (the Netherlands) by Van den Broek and Bakema is listed as municipal heritage, which few people there realise. It contains multilevel apartments, accessible from 4 corridors. Tucked away anonymously in a corner of the city, it somehow makes me sad. Is it the optimistic vision, when built, which later proved to be mainly wrong? Or just poor maintenance? #architecture #architecturephotography #architecturephoto #building #modernism #heritage #Architecturepicture
